"the Man with the Pipe"

Passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 8, 2006. Joe was born February 19, 1920 in Kalamazoo, the son of Jasper and Gertrude (Calvin) Francisco. Joe graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School, Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University. On April 30, 1943, Joe was united in marriage to Mary Lester, who survives. Joe worked for K.V.P., later Brown Company, in the printing department for 38 years. He was a founding member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Parchment, where he made their first portable altar and kneeling benches. The years in Parchment were very good years. Joe especially enjoyed time spent in his workshop, smoking his pipe, and sharing stories with his grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George, his sister Harriet, and his daughter Mary Jo Francisco. Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary; his children, Colleen (Jim) Magnan, Barbara DeKam, Brian (Cindy) Francisco, Pat (Chuck) Hill, Kevin Francisco, Michael (Kim) Francisco, and Maureen (Scott) Kiewiet; his fifteen grandchildren, Michelle Markle, Kelly Kocsis, Kimberly (Scott) Melvin, Eric (Ruby) Magnan, Pam (Todd) Rumler, Chris Magnan, Monica (Brandon) Flatt, Gabriel DeKam, Jessica DeKam, Susan Francisco, Sarah (Sean) Carmody, Andy Francisco, Patrick (Sara) Hill, Joe Hill, Brianna Hill; and his fourteen great-grandchildren, Darrell and Holley Markle, Samantha Melvin, Jeevan and Chethan Magnan, Nolan, Maggie and Anna Rumler, Amara, Brenna, and Chole Flatt, Ashley and Kyle DeKam, and Mickayla Hill; a brother, Marvin Francisco, and several nieces. Cremation has taken place. Monthly masses will be said for Joe. Memorial contributions may be made to Kairos Dwelling. Joe will live forever in our hearts and minds.
