ICKES, LeRoy Samuel
Age 86, died July 4, 2003 at Silver Wood Good Samaritan Center, Silverton, ID. He was born January 6, 1917 in Pe Ell, WA, the son of Samuel and Blanche (Mauk) Ickes. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II in the Pacific Theater. He was a maintenance superintendent for Atlas Press in Kalamazoo, MI, and after leaving Michigan he moved to Alaska, where he owned a restaurant bar and motel in Talkeetna. He then retired and moved to the Silver Valley in 1983. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Talkeetna, AK. He enjoyed Flat Track Motorcycle racing, where he was state champion in Michigan in 1948 and 49, and rode Indian Motorcycles. On July 27, 1946, in South Bend, IN, he married Blanche Boughton, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his four brothers. Surviving are 1 daughter and her husband, Bette and John Bommerscheim of Paw Paw, MI; son and wife, Fred and Jeanne Ickes of Talkeetna, AK; 6 grandchildren, Shauna Schrader, Sandra Rickli, Michael Bommerscheim, Mindy Osmar, Jeremy Ickes, and Josh Ickes; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Harold and Jack Ickes of Michigan; 2 sisters, Dorothy Crawford and Arleen Jabay of Michigan. Memorial Services are pending. Cremation has been held. Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service and Crematory, Kellogg and Wallace, Idaho in charge of arrangements.
