According to the population register he emigrated to Grand Rapids on 12 November 1906,possibly to live with his son
Cornelis de Laat,born 6 March 1878 in Kloetinge.

Cornelis de Laat was married to Martina Sanderse.
They had one daughter,Pieternella Paulina de Laat,born 12 December 1896 in Goes, when they emigrated to Grand Rapids.

This couple arrived on Ellis Island on 8 May 1898.
The ships manifest says they went to see their uncle Hubertus Verdonk.
