I'm afraid that was about the extent of my knowledge on that side of the family as I am really related to Silas Ward's wife's Unger line. I will keep my eyes open for anything additional about these folks in my genealogical travels though.

Thank you for answering my query. I have worked on the Randall family for a long time. I think most likely is that the Randalls and Wards knew each other in St Lawrence Co NY. I believe the Rennells also knew the families. I cannot find Nathaniel on a NY census. Nathaniel was there in 1823 when he applied for a pension and named his children and gave their ages. Another puzzle. Marriage lic for Nathaniel and Martha Field in Weybridge VT is dated 8 Sept 1796. John was b in 1803. 6 years between marriage and his birth. Did they have more that we don't know about? Is there another Nathaniel Randall and a Martha Field? Always questions and no good answers. Martha Randall m Leonard Hale and had one child apparently born the same year she died. Child was Catherine Melissa Randall b 10 Jan 1836. She married Albert H Buckman and died in Wisconsin. Martha was 16 in 1823. I have no marriage date for her. I think I have all of them unless, like I said, there were more. If you know any more about them I would appreciate knowing it. My children are descended from this family. Thanks again. Eleanor

William D. Ward's father, William R. Ward died 15 August 1841 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Morristown, St. Lawrence Co., NY. Per Silas W. Ward's obituary, Morristown was Silas' place of birth on July 28, 1844. My thought is that perhaps William D. inherited some land from his father when the father died and they moved to NY to live on it or farm it. (William's mother Susannah Ward didn't die there until 1855 though). Silas' obituary says that he moved to Michigan when he was five so that would have been about 1849. That appears to be true as they were in the 1850 Grattan Township, Kent Co., MI census. That is a good theory about a sibling connection between William's first wife Permelia Randall and Elmina's first husband Adin Randall. That could explain why William went back to OH to marry Elmina. An interesting family!

Hi - I do want to express a caution - we don't know if this is the correct Melbourne Ladd. Altho' it is an unusual name, and the birtdate seems about right. So it seems likely. More checking is needed. It'd be great if you could get the text of his obituary, or his death certificate to see where he was born.

I just checked the social security death index with ancestry.com and I found a Melbourne H. Ladd. Birthdate July 24, 1906, death date November 27, 1987. Died in Bentonville, Arkansas, buried in Bentonville Cemetery. This file (on ancestry.com) was from billiongraves.com. You might find more on this death at the County Clerk's office in Bentonville, Ark - or there might be an obituary somewhere in Arkansas.

I haven't found anything on Manley Ladd. Still checking tho'.
Do you have an idea as to why Silas W Ward was b in NY when his other siblings were b in Ohio. I am searching for ancestors of Permelia Randall Ward, William's first wife.
Richard Ward b 1834 in NY, William Ward b 1839 in OH, Sidney Ward b 1841 in OH, then Silas in NY. William D Ward m2 Elmina Runnells Randall b Jan 1820 in PA. They had George A Ward b 1853 in MI, Susannah (Susie) Elmina Ward Madison b 1858. I believe the Permelia Randall Ward and Elmina's first husband, Adin Randall (1813-1848) were brother and sister. No absolute proof but it seems to fit. Thanks for reading.

I have been looking for a long time for the sons of my great great grandmother, Jennie (Jennifer or Jane) Ladd.

She was born Jennie Edna Berghorst 3 Dec 1877 in Ottawa, Michigan, US. Daughter of John (Gerrit) Berghorst born Aug 1847 in the Netherlands - immigrated to US and settled in Ottawa, MI, US AND his wife, Johanna (Anna) Van Gelderen born 26 Jan 1852 in Netherlands - also immigrated to US and settled in Ottawa, MI, US.

She was married to my great great grandfather James Robert Ladd. Born 18 Dec 1883 In New York, US. Died 26 Mar 1970 in Eaton, MI, US. - He later remarried

She had two sons before giving birth to my great grandfather. His name is Orange Nolan Ladd born 13 Nov 1906 in Grand Rapids, MI, US. He was taken in by Marion E Baxter (Also known as Minnie) B. 18 Sep 1874 in MI. After the passing of his mother, Jennie Ladd, in Feb 1907 in MI, US.

The other two sons of hers are Manley Ladd (B before 1905 presumabley in MI) and Melbourne Ladd (B before 1906 also presumably in MI). I cannot find them as their father, James Robert Ladd, allowed them to either be adopted or gave them to other family members to raise after he was a widower.

This has been a search in the works for 6+ years. It is especially important to my grandfather, Earl Ladd (Son of Orange Ladd) because he wants to know who his REAL grandmother was (not the woman James remarried - Bernice Ethel Bigelow). He is getting older (78) and would like to find her grave and pay his respects before his time on this earth ends. PLEASE HELP OUR FAMILY.

I am in the possession of some original genealogy related papers of John Cornely. I would like to find a descendant or researcher of this family. John was born August 1840 in Germany, to Anton Cornely and Mary Muhlbuch. He married Elizabeth, they had at least three children Anna, born about 1867; Mary, born about 1870; and Mollie, born about 1875. He lived in Higgins, Roscommon, Michigan. He died on 8 October 1906 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan. If you are related please email me. I would love to have these papers back in the family. I am not related to this family. A friend purchased some items at an auction and a pouch of papers was included.

Wow, that's a lot of information. I knew both Ada and Henry had been married before and that Ada had no children, but was really curious as to whether Henry had children and if so where the family came from and what became of the kids. Thanks so much--gives me a lot to go on.
Henry Wiersma m. Ada Wright, 1920, Michigan

I hope some of the following will be helpful. Here is Henry and Ada's marriage from familysearch.org:

Michigan, Marriages, 1868-1925
Name Henry Wiersma
Race (Original)
Age (Expanded) 40 years
Birth Year1880
Birthplace Netherlands
Spouse's Name Ada L. Wright
Spouse's Race (Original)
Spouse's Age (Expanded) 42 years
Spouse's Birth Year 1878
Spouse's Birthplace Newaygo Co., Michigan
Event Date 06 Apr 1920
Event Place Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan
Father's Name Dick Wiersma
Mother's Name Fannie Luaben
Spouse's Father's Name Lewis E. Wright
Spouse's Mother's Name Martha J. Wonck
Digital Folder Number 4032390
Reference IDv 4 p 122 rn 10276

The 1900 census says "Henry Denkclaar" is Dick's stepson. Dirk (b. Aug 1852, NL) and Fannie (b. Feb 1852, NL) had been married 16 years, so about 1884. These are the children listed:

Ed Wiersma, b. Jun 1879, NL
Henry Denkclaar, b. Feb 1879, NL
Jessie Denkclaar, b. Nov 1881, NL
Maggie Wiersma, b. Aug 1887, MI

It looks like Dirk and a first wife had one child, and Fannie and a first husband had two children. Then Dirk and Fannie married in Michigan and had a daughter. Yes, here is their marriage, with their Dutch names a little closer to being correct:

Michigan, Marriages, 1868-1925
Name Dirk Wiersenia [Wiersema]
Age (Expanded) 33 years
Birth Year 1852
Birthplace New..., Netherlands [possibly Zuidhorn]
Spouse's Name Zwaantje Lubbes
Spouse's Age (Expanded) 32 years
Spouse's Birth Year 1853
Spouse's Birthplace Ludekirk, Netherlands [looks like Oldekerk, NL--so Groningen]
Event Date 06 Oct 1885
Event Place Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan
GS Film number 2342476
Digital Folder Number 4207804
Reference IDv 2 p 153 rn 3489

Here is Dirk's birth in Noordhorn, Zuidhorn, Groningen, NL. The birth date even matches the 1900 census, which is so often not the case. And here you see the spelling of his name at birth:

Registratiedatum [registration date] 05-08-1852
Geboorte [birth] 03-08-1852 [3 Aug 1852] Noordhorn gem. Zuidhorn
Kind [child] Derk Wiersema
Geslacht m [gender: male]
Vader [father] Enne Ruurts Wiersema
Leeftijd [age] 36 jaar
Beroep arbeider [occupation: laborer]
Moeder [mother] Eelje Willems Dorpstra
Leeftijd 36 jaar
Beroep arbeidster
Bron [source] Geboorteregister [birth register of] Zuidhorn 1852
Aktenummer [certificate no.] 54

Derk's first marriage:

Huwelijk [marriage] 19-05-1877 Aduard
Bruidegom Derk Wiersema, 24, boerenknecht [farmhand]
Geboren [born in] Noordhorn gem. Zuidhorn
Vader bruidegom Enne Ruurts Wiersema
Moeder bruidegom Eelje Willems Dorpstra
Bruid Aaltje Koster, 35, dienstmeid [servant girl]
Geboren Oldekerk
Vader bruid Geert Gerrits Koster
Moeder bruid Bouwina Abrams Reitsema
Bron Huwelijksregister Aduard 1877
Aktenummer 8

Derk and Aaltje's children:
Bouwina Wiersema (f), b. 18 Jan 1878, Den Ham
Enne Wiersema (m), b. 10 Jun 1879, Fransum (Ed in 1900 census)
Geert Wiersema (m), b. 9 Aug 1882, Den Ham

But Derk is Henry's stepfather. Here is his mother's birth (refer to translations above):

Registratiedatum 24-02-1851
Geboorte 22-02-1851 Oldekerk
Kind Zwaantje Lubben
Geslacht v [gender: female]
Vader Henderikus Jans Lubben
Leeftijd 28 jaar
Beroep arbeider
Moeder Geeske Wobbes Smitter
Leeftijd 35 jaar
Bron Geboorteregister Oldekerk 1851
Aktenummer 6

Now we want Zwaantje's marriage and Henry's birth...

Huwelijk [marriage] 30-09-1876 Grijpskerk [in Groningen]
Bruidegom Kasper Dinkela, 25, arbeider
Geboren Zuidhorn
Moeder bruidegom Arendina Dinkela, arbeidster
Bruid Zwaantje Lubben, 25, dienstmeid [servant girl]
Geboren [born in] Oldekerk
Vader bruid Henderikus Jans Lubben
Moeder bruid Geeske Wobbes Smitter, arbeidster
Bron Huwelijksregister Grijpskerk 1876
Aktenummer 33

These are the children of Kasper and Zwaantje:

Arendina Dinkela (f), b. 14 Dec 1877, Westerhorn, Grijpskerk, Groningen
Henderikus Dinkela (m), b. 22 Feb 1879 (that matches 1900 census as well), Westerhorn, Grijpskerk, Groningen
Jakob Dinkela (m), b. 17 Apr 1880, Lutjegast, Grootegast, Groningen
Geeske Dinkela (f), b. 24 Nov 1881, Grootegast, Groningen (Jessie in 1900 census)

Henderikus's birth registration:

Registratiedatum 24-02-1879
Geboorte 22-02-1879 Westerhorn, Grijpskerk
Kind Henderikus Dinkela
Geslacht m
Vader Kasper Dinkela
Leeftijd 27 jaar
Beroep arbeider
Moeder Zwaantje Lubben
Bron Geboorteregister Grijpskerk 1879
Aktenummer 30

Kaspar's mother was not married to his father. You can see that his father is not named on his marriage certificate, and he has his mother's last name. Here is his birth:

Registratiedatum 19-04-1851
Geboorte 16-04-1851 Zuidhorn [Groningen]
Kind Kasper Dinkela
Geslacht m
Moeder Arendina Dinkela
Beroep dienstmeid
Bron Geboorteregister Zuidhorn 1851
Aktenummer 30

Derk and "Fannie" had a daughter born/died 15/16 Dec 1886 in Grand Rapids; no name mentioned. Maggie was born 3 May 1887 in GR.

According to the 1900 census, Ed's birth date matches son Enne. However, the ship's manifest, 30 Apr 1883 (SS Schiedam; New York) says Gerrit, 6 months, which closely matches Geert. It was just the family of 3, so we should find 2 deaths in Groningen...
Bouwina died 13 Aug 1878, Den ham
I don't see a son's death; possibly between Groningen and Amsterdam? (port of departure)

I hope you were looking for ancestors and not descendants. :)

the closest I come is on the WMGS.org site where there is a listing for a George Damoose who died in 1981. Also has his engagement and wedding story from the 1960's. No Damis or any variation thereof. Sorry

1858 LAND DEED - Between Warren W. & Mary E. WEATHERLY and John A. RUSCHE - ALPINE TWP.
On December 30, 1858, for the sum of $1,300, WARREN W. & MARY E. WEATHERLY, of the City of Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Mich., deeded to JOHN A RUSCHE, of the same place, the W1/2 of the NW1/4 of Sec. No. 14, Township No. 8 North, Range No. 12 West [Alpine Township], containing 8 acres. Witnesses: John W. Champlin & M.H. Nileman.

RECORD OF DEEDS, Kent County, Michigan, Book 19, Page No. 341.

NOTE: It seems fantastical that John A. Rusche would have paid $1300 for 8 acres of land in Alpine Twp. in 1858. I have to wonder if the '8' should be an '80.'
