Kim, you may not remember me. It's been many years. I've been researching the Blow family since 1983 and we've corresponded several times. I believe you did send a copy of James Blow naturalization paper to me. It's been lost, maybe left at a relatives house or whatever. I might have it but lost in the piles of research papers. Would you please send me another copy? I'd like to be sure I have a copy for my Blow file/binder. I wasn't sure your address listed (AOL) is still current so I chose this way.

By the way, I've never been able to get James across the pond, but I did find an interesting item. There was a print shop partnership Blow and O'Neil. Have you matched to that?
Lee

Cyrus Pettingill was one of the founders of the First Baptist Church of Lapeer. He moved with his wife, Mary Jane, and three stepchildren, John, George, and Caroline Brown to Lapeer sometime between 1850 and 1857. Cyrus later was in the Civil War, and ended up in a home for disabled veterans in Ohio where he died in 1884. His wife probably passed away in Lapeer prior to 1860. If anyone has information on where she might be buried, I'd appreciate that information.

I am answering my own question as someone on the Evans board had proof that Esther Evans was originally Esther Knowlton of Halfmoon, Saratoga Co., NY. John Evans died before the 1860 census, but by that time Esther had remarried, a John Griffin in Burlington, Lapeer Co. On the 1850 census page, she and Mr. Evans are living with their daughter, Harriet Earl. The next family in the census also contains a daughter, Elizabeth Warren, her husband John, and children. By 1870 she has a new husband too, Seth Willey. In 1870 Esther is widowed a second time and is living with her daughter Mary and son-in-law, Edwin M. Roberts. So almost all of the Evans family had immigrated to Lapeer Co., MI, leaving son Ephraim K. Evans back in New York.

I am looking for some proof that John and Esther Evans living in Lapeer in 1850 in the household of Jeremiah and Harriet Earl are the couple who married ca. 1815 in Halfmoon, Saratoga Co., NY. Esther, b July 17, 1794, was the daughter of John and Mary Manning Knowlton. I believe John to be the son of an Andrew Evans of the same place. In 1860 the Earl household has disappeared from Lapeer, but Ephraim Earl (b ca. 1844) is living with Isaac Evans.

Help! I am looking for my wife's grand-uncle, Raymond Stratton. He was from a family of 10, in which a sister, brother, and brother-in-law all died in October of 1918 during the Spanish influenza. They lived in Niles, Berrien County, Michigan at the time, and Raymond (at age 6)can be found in the 1920 U.S Census. Sometime between January 20, 1920 and April 19, 1930, Raymond ended up at Lapeer, and is found listed among the reidents in the 1930 U.S. Census of what was then the Michigan Home and Training School (as a 16-year-old "shoe shop worker"). I don't know why he was institutionalized, but stumbled upon documentation that says Raymond died there on August 25, 1939 (age 26)--- no cause of death, obituary, place of burial... nothing. I imagine he's buried in the now unkept and overgrown Oakdale cemetery somewhere on the grounds. He is not in the family plot at Silverbrook Cemetery, in Niles. I don't have a photo of Raymond, but hope somebody can help me track him down. Thank you. -Rolf

Re: Curiston family & Smiths

Sophia Curiston's maiden name is Williams. This comes from her son Edwin's marriage record. Her parents were Thomas (born about 1798 in England) and Catherine (born about 1800 in either New York or England). You can find them in the 1850 and 1860 census in Macomb, New York. In the 1860 census, Leonard Williams, age 5 months, is listed after her, so it's possible that she had her first child out of wedlock at the age of 17. Sophia married William Roe sometime after 1860. William Roe enlisted in the Army in 1862 in Macomb and deserted in 1863. What happened after that is hard to determine, as there were several William Roes in the Army. William's daughter, Nancy Jane, was born about this time. Both Sophia and Nancy Jane applied for a survivor's army pension. Sophia also applied for a pension for her second husband, Thomas H Curiston, who she married about 1866. The 1900 census shows them married about 30 years. If so, then they married about 1870, which would call into question the father of her daughter Mina. Thomas enlisted in 1863 and died in 1915. His parents were Samuel Curiston (born in Ireland about 1804) and Elizabeth Kennedy (born in Ireland about 1807). They brought their family to Canada in about 1851. (They're in the 1851 census living in Quebec, but son Robert was born in Scotland about 1850.) Elizabeth died in childbirth in 1853 in Canada. Samuel died two years later, 14 Feb 1855, five months before a son, Samuel, was born to his second wife, Jane Gardiner. Sophia lived until at least 1920. She's listed on that census in Lapeer, MI, living with son Samuel John Curiston.

I believe that John King was first married to Harriet ????, second to Philena Reynolds (when and where?), and thirdly to widow Sophia Higgins. I have seen several posts that claim that Philena died 7 June, 1847, but that is the date that John and Sophia married in Oakland County, Michigan.

John and Philena had 6 children born in Michigan: Naomi, Caroline Elizabeth, Joseph, Orin, Merlissa, and Nancy.
When and where was the marriage and death of Philena (Reynolds) King? Michigan vital records began in 1867.
I believe that John King was married first to Harriet ????m and had two daughters: Eunice (b. 1734) and Rhoda (1836 - 1907) Rhoda was my dad's grand-mother. His other grand'mother was Caroline Elizabeth King, daughter of Philena and John. Caroline went by both Caroline or Elizabeth.
I do know that he is buried here with a war marker, but it was just thrown on the ground, trees were planted in rows a few decades ago, so his exact location in Five Lakes Cemetery is unknown. He used the alias of John Lewis in the Civil War. You can find some info here: http://thirdmichigan.blogspot.com/2009/07/john-lewis.html I don't have much on him other than I found him and thought he deserved better. Marlene Steele, a librarian from Battle Creek, was also looking for him (since 1981?) and I met her there in 1994. She is related somehow, niece?

Thanks for the info,
I've been over these records a million times as you can see this Henry Nash was married to Emma Decker, in 1850.
They were not living together but they both sighned the census that they married in the last year,
Then from 1860 on they disappear. (Although a Henry O Nash appears later on)
I am sure that Albren Nash is Emma Nash's son due to the fact in the 1880 census he names Frank Decker as his cousin. And when I looked at the census for 1860 & 1870 the Storum family live next to the Decker Family.

I really want to find out what happend to them between 1850 and 1860, by working theory is Emma died in child birth
and Cornelius Decker took care of the grandchild.
I am looking for information on Henry Nash born 1822 and Emma Decker born about 1830, They lived in Lapeer county and were married in 1850 and had a son Albern in 1851. Then I loose all track of them. Their son was raised by the Stroumn Family who lived near Corneilus Decker until 1870 or so.

In case no one has replied directly, you might want to check out the Library of Michigan's answer catalog. I've keyed in Lapeer newspapers and this link should show what editions are available on microfilm. Hope this gives you a start.

http://35.8.7.98/search~S37/X?searchtype=X&searchscope=3...

http://preview.tinyurl.com/by97539
