Dr. Leslie E. Purman family newspaper article needed, Nov 28-29 1966

I am looking for a newspaper article as too what happened exactly too Dr. Leslie E. Purman and wife Faye (Leighton) Purman on Nov. 27-28-1966, in Pine Stump Junction, would like to have the complete story. Clearly they froze to death. But a newspaper article giving family etc., if the memorial is where this unfortunate tragedy happened, why and how etc. Would greatly be appreciated. Thanks alot for any help..

While researching Stephen Peacock and Irena Howard the title to this publication came up. Am wondering if someone can tell me just what kind of information is given? We know the divorce occurred between 1920 and 1930 as they were living together in the 1920 census and by the 1930 census Irena was remarried to someone else. While the price is not great on a retirement income do not want to purchase if its not going to give me much information.

Seeking information on Cory Harrison "Harry" KELLEY, b. 14 Jan 1889, the son of Margaret "Maggie" KELLEY KNAPP. He married Leta Bess MARBLE, b. 29 Jun 1899, daughter of Stephen MARBLE and Annie GIDDINGS, on 20 Nov 1915. They resided in Boyne City for many years.

The couple had just one son, Ray Harrison KELLEY,b.27 Aug 1916 in Boyne City, who married Mildred JOHNSON.

Leta Bess MARBLE KELLEY died 16 Sep 1921. Harry then married Anna Marie SCHWAB on 29 Nov 1924. Anna, b. 24 Jun 1905, was the daughter of Matthew SCHWAB/ZVAB and Anna ELENICH. Harry and Anna later moved to the Newberry area of Luce County, Michigan and had seven children as follows:

I visited the cemetery last summer & found (4) of my Benwill Family members buried there but am unable to find information on exact dates of Births/Deaths,census info or obituaries. I sent for a couple death cert. but found they weren't recorded in Luce Co. Where might I find the info I need on Alexander,Marjorie,Nora & Peter Benwill?

John's son William Solan b. 1894? in Ontario married 1917 to Margaretha Norom up there, he died 1970 there.

Last info I have is that she lived in Pentland, Luce Co. as a cook in a lumber camp back in 1920. She never made it to the 1930 census, and husband Grant Rowe is called "widower" in that 1930 census.
She had 3 children with Grant Rowe. Ethel H., b. 1899 who I dont think made the trip from Ogemaw Co. to the U.P., Ruth L., b. 1901, and son Kenneth Rowe, b. 1912. Any info on Lillie, or the Rowe family would be appreciated!

William R. "Bill" Kelley, 70, of Englewood, Florida passed away Monday, May 22, 2006. He was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Newberry, Mich., to Robert Kelley and Mary Kelley. Bill retired as a journeyman pipe fitter and steam fitter from Allied Paper Corp. in Kalamazoo, Mich. He was a longtime member of Loyal Order of the Moose 1933, and Kalamazoo Portage Moose Lodge 88. Bill moved from Kalamazoo to Englewood 17 years ago.
Mr. Kelley is survived by his wife of 21 years, Marcia Kelley of Englewood; two daughters, Colleen (Kelley) Donart of Sugarland, Texas, and Donna (Mike) Diez of Englewood; three grandchildren; and TWIN BROTHER, GEORGE KELLEY of Kalamazoo, Richard Roberts of Lawton, Mich., and David Roberts of Kalamazoo. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Billy Kelley; one sister, Lena Steele; three brothers, Bobby Kelley, Jerry Kelley and Stanley Roberts; and a granddaughter, Christina M. Root.
There will be a memorial wake on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Moose Lodge 1933 in Englewood, Florida.

Mr. Smith was a certified mechanic for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Carol I. Smith of Lodi; daughters, Terry Parent, of Lodi, and Renee Smith, of Michigan; son, Gary Smith, of Lodi; sister, Lorraine Maudrea, of Michigan; mother, Jesse E. Barber, of Michigan; and three grandchildren.

Private services were held.

Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I was hoping some kind person would do a lookup for the death record of my grandmother in Luce County. Her name was Delphine Josephine St Germain nee Beaudry. She was born in 1871 in Canada and died in the Pentland Hospital in Luce County between the years 1920 and 1930. I found her as a patient on the 1920 census, but not on the 1930 census. On the 1920 census her husband, Alphonse St Germain, is listed as married. On the 1930 census he is listed as widowed. I would appreciate having the death date and burial location of my grandmother.

My grandfather Joseph LeVeque was from Lake Linden MI. He was born in 1894 and died in Lake Linden. In the early 1920's he married Laurentia Mayrand from Hancock MI. She and her family worked for the RL Polk copper mine.

I found both Joseph & Laurentia LeVeque listed on the 1930 census living in Milwaukee WI. But aside from that I can find no other information on Joseph.

Research on Neazor Point on Manistique Lake

We live in New Zealand and my husband and I are looking for his relatives and ancestors. We see that there is a Neazor Point near Sherman Road in Curtis Michigan and would like to know the background to this as the Neazor name appears almost extinct here and around the world.

Three Neazor immigrants from Ireland settled in New Zealand in the early 1870s.

William Henry Whitby was born circa 1854 in Scotland and settled in the Newberry district in 1889 with his wife and family. It is believed that William Whitby died around 1915 there. I am trying to ascertain his actual death date and where he was actually buried.

After his death, his wife and some of the family had moved to Tacoma, Washington.

My grandfather was Joseph Leveque his wife Laurencia Mayrand. I am hoping someone has any information about Joseph. I know he was born 16 June 1894 and that he died in 1967. The only other information I have on him is the 1930 census showing both of them living in Milwaukee WI and that he was a truck driver there.

Aside from that grandpa is a mystery not only to me but also to my mother who never got to meet him.

Densil went to Farris Institute with my Dad, and was there in 1918 when WW 1 ended. I have a nice picture of about 5 men in WW 1 uniforms. Today we call that ROTC, but at that time it was called something else. In any event, if a relative in that area see`s this message, I will be glad to send a copy of that photo to them. I am looking for information about the parents of David Emory Hanes, born 1/6/1850 in OH. He married Eliza (Anna) Crawford in St. Francois Co. on 9/9/1885. Eliza's parents were James M. Crawford and Isabella Cartee. I show David Hanes in the 1900 Michigan census, so I don't know how long they lived in MO. My grandmother thought David's father's name may be Jake or Jacob. David's son Homer married Celia Mary Chartrand and they lived in McMillan for years also. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Alexander (1857-1929), Marjorie (1848-1940), Nora (1908-1922) & Peter (1885-1934) are buried in Forest Home Cemetery. I've been informed by the county clerk that Alex & Marjorie's deaths were not recorded in Luce Co. Would anyone know where they died and why they were buried there. Am also wondering if Keith Stevens is still the current sexton for the cemetery & if he would have records that could answer my questions ?

Hi there - looking for any relatives of a Mrs. Jennie Brow, aka Virginia Belanger Brow, born about 1911 in Leelanau County, MI. Mrs. Jennie Brow was mentioned in her father's obit (aka Jedson Belanger, Judson Belanger, Julius Belanger, Gideon Belanger) who died Dec. 6th, 1941 in Kent County, MI.
I'm hoping to find any info on Jennie's dad's 1st wife, Virginia LeFebrve Belanger. Trying not to be too confusing, Virginia LeFebrve's mom was a Brow, born French Canada, according to the 1910 census, Lelanau Co. Virginia LeFebrvre Belanger died abt. 1901-1906. Her husband, Gideon Julius Belanger remarried to Gertrude ROEN, of Norway, and they had 2 more kids, Martin & Virginia (Jennie). Jennie must have married a Brow from possibly the McMillan area.

John H Young was born in Connecticut but traveled to Michigan as a salesman i believe. In the 1920 U.S. Census he is listed as living in Luce County, Newberry Township. He is no where to be found in the 1930 census, so we believe that he may have died there. Is there anyone who can do lookups for that county?

I am looking for information for Solomon Theodore Jouppi and Tyyne Marie Takala. They married in July of 1918 and Tyyne died in October 1918 (flu epidemic?).
Tyyne is apparently the daughter of Hilda Sofia Takala (not sure of husband's name). They immigrated to Newberry, Michigan in September of 1903. Hilda was 24 and Tyyne was either 3 years or three months. (Immigration information from Institute of Migration - Finland)
Ted married Senia Thompson as his second wife and I believe they also lived in Newberry. Ted listed Barrett Logging Company as his employer for his Social Security Application. I would also like to know more regarding Senia and Jouppi family.

I believe Alexander Lang and Nora Kak were both born in York County, Canada and immigrated to Pentland, Michigan.

Nora Kak's father may be Alfred Kak from Canada or Pennsylvania.

She was born in Cheboygan, MI on August 31, 1912, a daughter of the late Eli & Josephine (Ross) Pilon, Survivors include 3 sons: Lane Hammond of St. Petersburg, FL; Howard (Barbara) Pilon, Jr., Vacaville, CA; and Lanson (Kathy) Swanson, Parchment, MI; daughters: Lee Ann (Chris) Slaughter, Mesa, AZ; Deborah (Daniel) Schmidt, Wadsworth, IL; and Tamsin (Chris) Farley, Paw Paw, MI. A local niece, Mary (John) Duflo, Newberry; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Newberry on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at 11:00 with Fr. Paul Karottkunnel officiating. Inurnment will take place in Forest Home Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be given to the Handicapped Chair LIft fund at St. Gregory's Catholic church or to the annex. Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry is assisting the family.

[The 1861 Ontario Canada census for Barton Twp, Wentworth Co, ON CA, where HHH and family were living, indicated James' birth circa 1847 in "Canada West"].

My gr-gr-gf, Henry Harrison HINES, b 1817 Watertown Jefferson Co NY married (#1) Betsey/ Betsy FALLS and they had a son James A HINES and four or five other sons. HHH owned a 1/2 acre parcel in 1843 in Omar (now in the Town of Orleans, Jefferson Co, NY), along Millet Creek, on the Orleans to Alexandria Road.

My greatgrandfather's siblings emigrated from Kragerø, Norway in 1887 and 1894 and settled in Newberry. We have lost touch with the family. I would love to find descendants of: Alf Evensen, Ole and Anne Allette Halvorsen, or Anne Marie Fellman nee Evensen (she and her husband moved to Marquette around 1894). Ole and Anne Allette Halvorsen with two year old daughter Thelma emigrated in 1894 while Alf was already a citizen in 1894.

William FREER,Jr was living in Newberry, MI at the time of his death in 1982. His wife, Marion, died in 1986.

Born in Alcona County, MI, William was the son of William Sherman FREER, Sr. and Linna Elizabeth SOVEY. He was the brother to my Grandmother, Linna Sophia FREER WILLIAMS, who died in 1948.

Daniel Sonner

Daniel Sonner of Tarpon Springs, Fla., died with his children by his side on May 26, 2002, at the Helen Ellis Hospital in Tarpon Springs, Fla. He was 63.

He was born on May 18, 1939, in Newberry, Mich., and spent his childhood in Ferndale, Mich. After high school, he played baseball for the U.S. Navy in Hawaii, and then moved to California , where he played baseball for the Giants Minor League Organization.

He reared his family in California while working as a sales representative, which he did until his retirement.

He spent his retirement in Tarpon Springs, where he enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers during spring training. His true passion was baseball, and he spent countless hours coaching and mentoring teen-agers for more than 30 years.

A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St., Davis.
