I am searching for any reference to a son and daughter who died ca 1797/98 in New Haven, CT. Parents would have been Wheeler and Mehitable Sperry Oviatt. Would appreciate the information from their tombstones if possible. In the Milford, CT death records the children are listed but with no names. I suspect that only the daughter died at the time since there is a male child below the age of 10 in the 1800 Census records with two other sons being born in 1802 and 1805. I would not need a picture of the tombstone(s). Do you have any experience or knowledge with the local church records or death records in the late 1700's or early to mid 1800's? All suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.....recordbug...Diane

All with the surname of HERRIMAN.

If you happen to see them and get a snapshot of the markers, that would be great!

James and Catharine, Charles and Jenny, William and Lettie, all HERRIMAN or HARRIMAN.

Thank you very much.
Well, I didn't have much luck today, but will try again next week.

Seems Clark Street is under construction, and I could not get to the main enterance. I tried looking for the back enterance off of Havenridge Rd, and was unable to find it.

I will keep trying!

Centennial Cenemtery is also known as New Haven Cemetery, that is why I had a hard time locating it.

You can contact city hall (I do not have the phone number or address)and they can provide you with info over the phone.

The address for the cemetery is 30700 Clark St, New Haven, MI. It is located off of Main St. It is not far from me, I plan on going there this afternoon. I will look for all the surnames mentioned here, if I can find them, I will take pics of the headstones I will post again later today or tomorrow on what I find.

Suzanne, thanks for sharing your brickwall. The information fits beautifully. I had Hannah Aldrich in my database, but hadn't connected the dots. You will probably hear from Jeanne Gorlick, who has done a lot of work on the Aldrich family which she has shared with the Library and me. She is on the Macomb List, so is bound to see your message.
Ann

Re the maiden name of Hannah, wife of David T. Pratt: she was Hannah Aldrich, born in Worcester County, Massachusetts, 1798, to Ebenezer and Isobel Chase Aldrich. Her siblings Eliza (who never married) and Seth Aldrich also lived in Armada. Eliza in fact, lived with David and Hannah, and Seth lived next door. It was re-examining the censuses that broke this brick wall down for me.

David T. Pratt of Vermont and Armada, and his family

I am interested in David T. Pratt, born Vermont, who died in Armada, Macomb County, Michigan, 25 May 1897. "Return of Macomb Co., #361, David T. Pratt, died May 26, 1897, male, white, widower, age 93 yrs, place of death - Armada." He is enumerated in the 1840, 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses in Armada, and in 1880 in Manlius, Allegan Co., Michigan, where he was living with his daughter Lucetta. David seems to match the David T. Pratt of the LDS Extracted Birth Records "DAVID T. PRATT, Male, Birth: 26 JUN 1804 Pownal Twp, Bennington, Vermont; Father: WILLIAM PRATT - Mother: ROSANA."
David married Hannah, surname unknown. Her census records state she was born in Massachusetts, but she has no death record that I can locate.

David and Hannah had three children: Andrew J. Pratt, Eliza C. Pratt, and Lucetta Pratt. Andrew J. married Harriet Baker; Eliza married Albert Knickerbocker; Lucetta was married twice, once to Albert's brother Theopholis Knickerbocker and secondly to John Shirk. I am trying to determine David T. Pratt's origins, the maiden name of Hannah, and what became of son Andrew. Hannah apparently died between 1860 and 1870 and Andrew between 1880 and 1900.

David is buried in Willow Grove, Armada, but apparently has no stone; this info came from cemetery records and does not mention Hannah. I cannot locate the death records of any of the three children.

Andrew J. was living in Armada in 1880; can't locate his death or cemetery; Eliza died in Armada in 1865 according to family record and cemetery info - she is buried in Hadley Cemetery; and Lucetta died in Allegan Co. 12 March 1881 according to submitted information but I can't verify or find cemetery record.

Any help or direction will be welcome!

Re: Sheriff Spaller?

John Spaller was born in Detroit on November 7, 1881, the son of German born Mary Matthews, sister of Sheriff Joachim Matthews, and Frederick Spaller. John was educated in the public schools until the age of twelve, and then spent two years as a German Lutheran student. He graduated from the Miles Business College of Detroit in June of 1899.
He married Maria Feuerhack of St. Clair County; their children were Mabel(Moneypenny), Frederick, William, Carl, and John, Jr., who died in a motorcycle accident at the age of twenty. The family resided on North Gratiot in Chesterfield Township for many years.
Spaller was elected Supervisor of Chesterfield Township in 1911.He next won the Sheriff election with 7,333 votes versus Democrat John Maison’s 4,767 votes. Fred Smith, President of the Romeo Village, was selected for Undersheriff, with the understanding that he would not be an active official, as Spaller planned to do as much of his own work as possible.Henry Kelly was again appointed court officer, and Eugene Villerot was appointed turnkey.
Sheriff Spaller spent most of his time at Indian River after he retired. He died on July 19, 1959 at Martha T. Berry hospital in Mount Clemens after a long illness, and was buried in Clinton Grove Cemetery.
The family (some just listed with a surname & date) was buried in a family plot J-41 in Clinton Grove Cemetery, Mount Clemens. Mable did die in Harrison Twp where they were living in 1922, but the other deaths during the 1920s and 1930s were not recorded in Macomb Co. Since Albert was living with his mother in Pontiac in 1930, they may have moved there shortly after Mabel's death. The Oakland County Death Index, which is available at the Mount Clemens Public Library could be searched, and obituaries should be searched for in the Pontiac Press & possibly Mount Clemens. Albert's store was probably in Harrison Twp where he lived, as it was not found in the Mount Clemens city directories. He did own property so that information would be available from the Registrar of Deeds. Also Businesses were registered with the County, but I am afraid that you will find the records for that period inaccessible due to their location (but they do exist).

Also he was previously married to Matilda Spencer in Oakland Co (see the familysearch pilot) by whom he had 2 children Clarence & Edna (see 1900 census Pontiac Twp). Bertha d 21 Jun 1922 in Sterling Twp.
Close but not quite. I've got David Fitzgerald married to Katherine Niebauer, my grandparents, so I'm totally sure on that. I've also got David's sister, Margaret, married to Thomas Powers probably in late 1800's. I'm not quite as sure on this one as Margaret didn't appear in the 1870 census if I was looking at the right Fitzgerald family. All the other names matched the info I had but I'm learning that may not mean it's the right family.

Ellen (nee McDonald and she liked to go by Eleanor in her later years) and John McKiernan were my grandparents. Ellen was born July 7/1888 and John was June 30/1981 or 2. Ellen had sisters, Catherine, Margaret, Alice, Harriette, Ethel and Otley who became nuns and Jessie, Brother was John Alfred. Any of this ring a bell?
