Morton C. Reeder
Morton C. Reeder, 85, of 4813 Whitman Avenue North, died Thursday in a nursing home. At his request, there will be no funeral services. Cremation was directed by the Bleitz Funeral Home.

Born at Lake City, Michigan, Mr. Reeder came to Seattle in 1916. He retired as a railroad conductor 20 years ago. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen from 1912 to 1962.

Surviving are his wife, Anna and a son, Earl Reeder, Fresno, California.

Alberta's mother was Lavinia Dixon who was sister to my great grandfather, William Dixon. Lavinia Dixon Reeder died in childbirth in 1893 in Lake City, Michigan.

Hi Jeff

Thanks for getting back to me. It appears that Alberta Reeder Sidebotham died August 2, 1909 in Warroud, Roseau County, Minnesota. Also listed was an unnamed female child (stilborn?). It is possible that she did die in a fire, but haven't heard that before. Any other information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Wonder if there would be anything in a newspaper for the Warroud area.

Here is a little tidbit, it is a transcription of the 1880 mortality index to the census, it is a listing of people who died in the past year. He is at the bottom, with his name mispelled, and it says he died of a fractured skull

Citizenship has no bearing on a death record.

Alfred's marriage record showed his father as "deceased".
That's another way of indicating - "don't know".

Charles parents were John Wetheral(b.abt 1823 in England) and Mary Cameron(b abt 1829 in Ontario,Canada).I don't think they ever moved from Ontario.
I never thought about the abandonment but maybe.Although I found Alfreds marriage record and it states that the father is deceased.The record was in 1911.It doesnt say anything about the mother being deceased tho.I just don't know why a mother would split up her children and only keep 1 child.Its seems strange to me.I guess we might never know how,where or why.Thank you for your help!I will check out the website you sent.Im thinking maybe Charles didnt have proper citizanship.Thats why I can't find any record of his death.He had only been in the states about 4 years.I think they immigrated in 1878.
I will pass along this inormation to my husbands grandmother and see if it makes sense to her too.

The information for Charles is right.I can't find his death record amywhere.I don't think the info for Elizabeths is right tho.She wouldn't have been that old if she died in 1888.She was born about 1849 in Ontario.Her parents were William and Rosa (Paul/Raul?)STITT.They were born in Northern Ireland.I was told that after Charles died she went to live with her parents and she took her son Charles Jr.Her 2 other children Alfred and Nellie went to live with her brother Joesph back in Canada. Im not 100% sure she died in 1888 or if she married another and left her children behind.Her daughter Nellie(b 1880 Ont) never talked about what happened.

Searching for any information about an Elizabeth Stitt and Charles Wetheral.They were both born in Ontario,Canada but immigrated to Michigan in 1878.Elizabeths parents moved as well.They lived in Pioneer,Missaukee while Charles and Elizabeth lived in Mount Pleasant.Charles died in 1882 I am having a difficult time finding any record.Elizabeth then went to live with her parents and her children were split up.I think she died in 1888 but haven't found much about them...any help would be MUCH appreciated.My email is erynn.mcgee@gmail.com thanx

Charles William Norton, 72, died at his home in Grout township this morning, Wednesday, after
an illness of several years. Funeral services will beh eld on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at
the Hall Funeral Home with burial in the Grout cemetery. The Rev. John Scott, pastor of the Grout
Methodist Church will officiate.
Mrs. Norton was born on September 6, 1875 in Sanilac county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Norton. He was married to Miss Florence Matthews on Feb ruary 20, 1895 in Falmouth. The
Norton's moved to Gladwin 36 years ago and have operated a farm in Grout township since that
time.
Surviving besides his wife, are two sons, James Norton of Birch Run and Chestly J.Norton of
Fostoria, Michigan; one daughter Mrs Ethel Brant of Gladwin; also 10 grandchildren and 11 great
grandchildren. One son, Gerald preceded his father in death in 1937.

clergyman. Mrs. Norton was born in Canada on June 26, 1878, the daughter of Jane and George
Matthews. On February 19, 1894, she was married to William Norton in Falmouth, Michigan, who
preceded her in death in 1948.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Brant of Gladwin; two sons, James of Birch Run and
Chester of Otter Lake; 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. One son, Gerald, is
deceased. One sister, Mrs. Ada Bradl ey of Vernon, and one brother, James Matthews of
Kalkaska, survive.

NORTON.--Joseph Norton was born April 27, 1847, in Sanilac county, this state, and died Oct.
23, 1915, at the home of his son, William Norton of Sage township. He suffered a stroke of
paralysis Friday morning, from which there was no help. Mr. Norton was married to Elizabeth
Maxwell of Sanilac county, Oct. 2, 1872. To this union were born six children, four of whom have
passed to the great beyond, and Mrs. Norton having gone to her reward July 17, 1898.
He leaves to mourn his loss one daughter, Mrs. Hiram Hall of Grout township and one son,
William Norton of Sage township, besides friends and neighbors, who will miss him in the daily
walk of life. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. H. Cornelius at 2 o'clock Monday from
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Hall, with interment in Grout cemetery. Gladwin County Record

Looking for any info on Benjamin Allison and his brothers and sister.
He was born in 1858 Ireland and died in Missaukee Co.
His father was William Allison.
I also would like to get his naturalized citizenship paper,
Sept. 11, 1939. Would courthouse have this?
Names Robert, Harry, Willie, Joesph, and Eliza.
I also know that Joesph and Eliza owned a small jewelry/china shop in Grand Rapids, but cant go futher with that.
Like to know more about the Ireland connection.

I have a grandma that passed away about 15 years ago, her name was eva mae pollington. Her father was named clarance and moms name was ethel. Her relatives were from montana. so i was thinking possibly this was her father.

Yes, I believe those names are correct.

My great grandmother is Hendrijke Rutgers Bouwmaster Handlogten.

Story I have is that Hendrik Bouwmeester died when a tree fell on him.

I have the genealogy prepared by Fred Handlogten and others.

Our Gr Grandfather was Cornelis or Cornelius Van Haitsma and he lived in Iowa for a while,1912 Homesteaded in Sask, Canada and returned to Iowa. But his son our grandfather stayed in Sask. until his death as a result of the flu epidemic in 1916. I have the homestead papers for both men in Sask,

Friends-

I've occasionally seen attached to family trees here on Ancestry.com full photos or scans of the Missaukee County record books, listing births and marriages for example. Is there a public source for those? I've visited the courthouse in Lake City a few times, I'd love to be able to access those records from home in Chicago!

Hello again,

I believe this is where the 3 children of Roy and Hattie Davis were taken in the last week of December 1951 just before Roy died in 2 January 1952. Per the 3 January 1952 issue of the newspaper "The Republican" in Lake City, "The Davis children were taken last week to a boy's home in Illinois".

In the January 10 issue of "The Republican" it states that Ray Davis' "...three small children have been taken to a children's home at Mooseheart, Illinois."

Hello Kathy,

Today I travelled up to the Pioneer Township Cemetery in Missaukee County. I found the headstones for Elias Davis and his wife Sarah, Roy Davis and his wife Hattie, and Chester Davis and took pictures of them. I also stopped by the library in Lake City where they have a historical room. I looked for any obits for the family. The newspapers they have there on microfiche are far from complete but I did gather some information. Elias Davis, born 4 September 1859, died Wednesday, 30 May 1945 and the paper for that year was not in the library. I could not find the obit for his wife Sarah even though that paper was available (born 12 April 1859 and she died 25 August 1921). Chester, born 19 February 1895, died on Monday, 27 December 1937 and was buried in Pioneer, probably after 1 January 1938. Roy, born 5 February 1888, died Wednesday, 2 January 1952 and was buried on Saturday, 5 January 1952. Roy's wife Hattie (unknown last name) was born in 1919 and died in 1957 (no exact dates on the headstone). What is interesting is that when Roy died, per the newspaper accounts, his children (apparently 3 boys) were sent to a "children's home" in Mooseheart, Illinois per one newspaper account and to a "boy's home in Illinois" per another newspaper account. Obviously Hattie was unable to care for them. Hattie died quite young, around age 38. Do you know what happened to those boys? Hattie's headstone says "Mother" on it so there must have been some children that acknowledged her as such. The headstone for Elias and Sarah looks nearly brand new. There are flowers around it and small trinkets. I have to believe that there is still family that visits those graves. There were also items and flowers at the grave of Roy and Hattie.

Pictures of the headstones would be great. Obits would be great. I have no idea when Elias or Roy died. Elias was a fiddle maker, someone had to know him. He lived in the area for quite some time.
