Thank you. It's one of the deadends that doesn't make sense. Dr. Charles Tracy Southworth has biographies, news articles, etc yet the only information on his first wife is the mention of her name, two daughters, marriage without parents listed and index of an obit which may not give anything.

Here's an outline of what I found from church records: Anton Pete married Isabel LaPlante; she died 16 Dec 1850 age 55 yrs as his widow (from St. Joseph Erie, Michigan microfilm records).
Son August(Augustin, Augustus) Pete bc 1817 St. Nicolas, Bas Canada married 1 Jun 1840 St. Joseph Erie MI Pauline Dusault (Dusseau etc.) b 1822 (twin), dau. of Louis Joseph Dusault and Monique Beaudrais. Their son Julian (Jules) was possibly Isaias Julian Pete born 11 Dec 1854 in Erie MI- there is another child born 18 Jan 1852 that's hard to read. Julian married 3 May 1881 St. Joseph Erie MI to Maria (Mary) Sans Craint. One witness to the marriage was Margarite Sans Craint- possibly they are the daughters listed for Charles Sans Craint and Adelaide Coutois. You can contact me for more info.

I have several mysteries that end in Monroe County. I have tried to even hire a couple of professional genealogists but I don’t even get a reply. Out of the several mysteries, the one I would hope most to solve (because it should be the "easiest") is the date of death for John Hoenig.
Background info--
He was born 26 Feb 1826 in Germany
1864 immigrated to US
1870 lived with his sister Anna "Anna" Maria Fetzer in Riga, MI. Census spelled his surname Haneg.
1880 lived with his sister Anna Maria "Mary" Fetzer in Riga, MI. Census spelled his surname Hing.
1900 lived with his sister Anna Maria "Mary" Fetzer in Summerfield. Census spelled his surname Hoenic.
1910 lived with his sister's son, David Fetzer in Summerfield. Census spelled his surname Honig. He was 84.
…no more info after 1910.
I checked and searched seekingmichigan.org's death records which go up to 1920 and in that year he would have made him 94! But even looking through every name in Monroe County, then Lenawee County, I could not find a record.

Beside the above misspelled variations on the surname, others are Hunwick, Hanwick, Harnwick, Hennick, Henig, etc, which has made researching more complicated.

Can anyone give any advice on what I can do?
Thank you
Searching for MOSES' origin:
Source found for subject(s) is www.linkstothepast/marine/ via Captains Bio. which is the earliest occupation reference for GGGrandfather MOSES STONE (wife) and Captain JOHN STONE.
Additional sources from 'Ancestry' are US Census 1870, 1880 Frenchtown, Monroe MI. MOSES STONE & ELISA / LIZZY (ELISABETH LEMIRE?) w/issue; John, Rosa, Louisa, Alex, Joseph, George & William.
ELisa's(Lemire) death doc, d. 10 APR 1921,Tecumseh, Essex Canada, lists pts as ANTOINE LEMIRE & MARGUERITE (DALY). Uncertain of yr
b. 1836/39 PQ and Moses's death doc, d. 25 NOV 1925 Tecumseh, Essex, Canada is w/o pts. Only known date for b. 1839? Place Unk??
CA Census' 1891,1901, 1911 having the family in Maidstone, Essex, ONT. I have tried to search for a marriage doc without success. The Stone name was apparently chgd from?....sound/x 'Larooo' (per GGrandmother HEBERT) and I have tried various spellings; La/Le....Rue/ Roche/ Rocque/ Roach/ Heruex, and a "dit" at this time searching would be pointless.
Although, I've also searched for oldest childs birthcert. and assume he, John, was born in Detroit MI as the following 2 sib(s) no luck. In searching for Moses' origin I found my GGGrandmother Eliza (Lemire) even more so curious, If she was M. E. Lemire in early CA Census' 1851/1860 I have found her previously married and buried.

Is there anyone trying to find Moses Stone ?

Waiting for a bite.

For an inventory of church records, and other Roman Catholic institutions and organizations, in the Archdiocese of Detroit---which includes Monroe County---go to

http://nycnuts.net/genealogy/church/detroit_rc/index.html

There you will find the Historical Records Survey published in 1941, which will tell you what records were available, such as baptism, marriage, confirmation, cemetery and financial records for these Catholic institutions, as well as the location of the records at the time of publication.
Bill,
Thank you very much--both are useful sites, and I don't know how I missed the first.
Can you recommend any organizations/sites to gain an understanding of the area? Why did people move back and forth across MI and OH--I know they are close, but here people tend to stay in one state, usually for tax reasons. Just wondering.
Why did the Germans come here in the late 1800s. It was before car manufacturing, right?
Can you recommend a good site for MI death records? Is there an index besides Family Search?
I am very grateful for your help.
Karen

Christian and Harriet were married in Whiteford on 27 Dec 1877. Their marriage record, online at https://familysearch.org, says Christian was 22, Harriet was 18 and they both were born in Toledo, OH. Note that the witnesses may have been Harriet's brothers.

The Wittenburgs are in Whiteford in the 1880 census, their ages matching the marriage record:
self, Chris, 25, OH Germany Germany, farm laborer
wife, Hattie, 21, OH Germany Germany, keeps house
son, Charles, 1, MI OH OH

Charles' 30 Dec 1878 birth is also online as are several of his siblings.

Check the obit index at Http://www.co.monroe.mi.us/egov/searchobituaries.aspx/ and be flexible with the spelling of surnames. The chart is also helpful by the inclusion of spouses' maiden names.

Bill

I am new to researching in this part of the country. I am searching for information on births, marriages and deaths for Hattie / Harriett Schroder or Schrader in Lambertville. Hattie was born ~ 1859 possibly in Ohio, married Christian John Henry Whittenberg/Wittenberg and their first child was born 1878 in Whiteford. I have no information on when they were married, who her parents were, or when she died. Can anyone provide any assistance, or direction? I haven't found any inforation that matches on Ancestry or Family Search. I don't know if there are other local sources I should check. All assistance is welcome
Karen

My wifes gr-grandmother was Clara Godfred, a sister to your gr-grandmother. Would that be Stella Mae Godfred who married Henry D. Milham. I also have his sister{?}who married her brother....correct? You have probably found the same info I have on the Netcher/Godfred line but I am happy to share what I do have. Keith Young

Yes, William P. Christiancy was the son of Isaac Peckham
Christiancy. I am the great granddaughter of Isaac. My
father William B. was Lillian Christiancy's son. Lillian
was the daughter of Isaac P. Christiancy and Lillian
Lugenbeel, his second marriage in Washington, D.C... My
father's Mother Lillian was the only child of this marriage, and my father was the only child of Lillian
Christiancy, dtr. of Isaac. Isaac was considerably older
than Lillian Lugenbeel...believe she was only 19 when she
met the elderly Isaac in D.C. He was critized greatly for
this relationship, in the press, which took a toll on his
character.

If you know she died in Toledo (Lucas County) order her death cert which would show where she was buried. If it only says "out-of-state" or something similar, the funeral home could provide further information, assuming they are still in business.

You can order a cert by phone for $25.
I think Harriet may be the mother of the Almira, Catherine T and Mary Ann Ashby shown as the first 3 children of Thompson Ashby in the 1850 Mackinac,Michican census even though his wife at that time is named Berintha.
There are Sanfords in Monroe in the 1830s.

I saw this old post of yours. Did you ever get a picture of the headstone of your ancestor David Larabell?
I live in Monroe and could try to get one for you. Let me know.

Susan Helena (White) Huss was born in Monroe, MI on 28 October 1941.

She married Edward D. Huss on 15 February 1969.

She passed away on 6 September 1992. I have a copy of her obituary, but it doesn't indicate where she was buried.

Can anyone tell me which cemetery she was buried in?

Note: I have a query out to the Rupp Funeral Home, where the service for Susan was held, but they may or may not respond.

Thanks. I was aware of obtaining obituaries from this website, and have in fact used it recently, but hadn't thought to check and see if they had obituaries for Michael Lidster and his daughter. Find A Grave has memorials for Michael and Marjory Lidster, but not one for Faith. The one for Marjory indicates she was killed in a railroad crossing accident. I was going to order some more obituaries anyway, so I'll add their names to the list. Possibly they'll shed some light on who was killed in the accident.

Apparently the Deerfield Moon only published from 1924 to 1939. Guess I'll have to figure out how to get microfilm loaned to a local library here in Georgia.

I searched the index to Obit collected by the Monroe County Historical Commissions Archives at URL:

http://www.co.monroe.mi.us/egov/searchobituaries.aspx

for Lidster and found that they have obits for:

Faith M. Lidster, age 18, died 16 Nov 1934 and
Michael Lidster, age 55, died 16 Nov 1934 from the
"Deerfield Moon" newspaper.

I would go to this website to learn how to order the obits and also see the other Lidsters listed. Order the obits if you don't have them. Now you can check on-line library catalogs to see who might have the "Deerfield Moon" newspaper for this time period. I would start at the Library of Michigan in Lansing to see if they have a copy. I would also check the Adrian library in Lenawee County and see if there might be a Deerfield library.

Good hunting,

Ron Morey
Moreyatmilan@comcast.net

Thanks much. I've concluded from the obituary listed on the Monroe County Online Services and the article that Cherie_in_OC pointed out to me that Majorie Lidster and Faith M. Lidster are one in the same person.
