MANSFIELD & REAM PA>Oscoda Co., MI, abt. 1890

I am looking for a connection between 2 families that showed up on the 1900 Census in Oscoda Co. Lewis, 58, & Mary C. (REAM), 54, MANSFIELD (Comins Twp., Vol. 62, ED 137, S7, Line 13) migrated to Biggs Settlement, Oscoda Co., MI from Armstrong Co., PA. James K.P., 36, & Mary E. (DEYARMOND) REAM (Elmer Twp., Vol. 62, ED 138, S2, Line 39) married in Oscoda Co. on August 7, 1895. I believe that James Ream is the nephew of Lewis and Mary Mansfield and that he, too, left Armstrong Co., PA, for MI and was probably living with/near them when the 1890 census was taken (all 3 were found in the 1880 census living in Kittanning, Armstrong Co., PA). I just need proof. If you can help me, please email me directly!
When my grandmother died in 1994, we found in her things the obituary of James Manson Marsh from a 1957 Mio, Michigan, newspaper. Marsh was born December 8, 1884, and passed away on May 22, 1957.

My grandmother lived in Winamac, Indiana all her life. I don't know who James Manson Marsh was, but I'm trying to find out if he was somehow related to her. My grandfather's Aunt Myrtle Stillwell Herschberger, wife of Henry Herschberger, lived in Mio from the early 1900s until her death in 1972. She had originally come from Miami County Indiana.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who could shed light on Marsh's relationship with our family. Also would be willing to email a copy of his obituary to any relative who is interested.

Thanks,

Jerry Jordan

Hello,
I have recently found that a James E. Kellogg purchased 160 acres at SE 21 Twp 26N Range 1E of the Michigan-Toledo Strip in Oscoda County. The land was registered on Jan. 20, 1892. I am trying to ascertain that this is my James E. Kellogg, wife Anna, and son Robert, that moved from Weare Twp., Oceana Co., Michigan. They were located there in the 1880 Federal Census. James E(dward), Anna and Robert were all born in Ontario, Canada. Has anyone come across this family, or have them in their "tree"?

Thank you for your time.

Kathy Stevenson
Elmira, Ontario, Canada
Hello everyone! I am hoping some kind soul out there can help me with information/and or a picture! My great-uncle, Stanley Tanner (married to my great aunt Pearl Walmsley on 8/16/1949), was buried in Fairview Cemetery. Honestly I do not know when he past away but my great aunt was not buried with him as she came back to Alpena, MI and lived until she passed on. All I know is she was a school teacher there for many, many years. I wish I knew more, but maybe someone frequents the Fairview Cemetery and would be willing to take a photo or email the inscription information....then with that date I could request an obit! Thanks for reading my post! bestwishes@usexpress.net

Hammering & Sawing BUCHOLZ BROTHERS from Ann Arbor

I'm looking for three carpentering brothers who were in Toledo, Ohio in 1890/91. They don't seem to have returned to the original family home in Ann Arbor, MI and are not buried with the rest of their family there. Following are the names of all (8) children of the family, in case subsequent generations recycled some of them:
Parents: Gottlieb BUCHHOLZ (one h later dropped)and wife, Caroline SCHMID (might be a t on the end) emigrated from Prussia 1868/69 to New York>Ann Arbor, MI. Some children emigrated with them and others were born in the US.
Herman, Labrecht G. (Labbey)(m.), Bertha Mathilda Charlotte, Albert A., William F., Henry, Charles L., and Frank H..

The missing sons are:
Albert A. BUCHOLZ
b. 1870 in Prussia. It is unknown if he married. Last whereabouts: 1890/91 was staying in boarding house at 1965 Erie, Toledo, Ohio. Trade: Carpenter and doesn't say where he was working.

William F. BUCHOLZ
b. 1869 in New York (during or shortly after voyage from
Prussia. He was a carpenter by trade, but doesn't say where he was working in Toledo, Ohio in 1890/91 when he was boarding at 1965 Erie. He returned to Ann Arbor, MI, to marry (In 27 Aug 1892) Sarah A. MOORE, b. 1869 in Indiana. (dressmaker daughter of P. MOORE and Sarah MAYNES. The trail is cold after the marriage.

The sister of these three men was also staying in Toledo, Ohio, in the same boarding house at 1965 Erie for a period of time. She has no trade or work listed and shortly thereafter returned to Ann Arbor to marry my gr. grandfather, Richard Garibaldi PORTWINE (also a carpenter).

Frank H. BUCHOLZ is the third missing brother from this family. He was b. 1 Aug 1875 in Ann Arbor, MI and it is not known if he married. He was a carpenter by trade and in 1890/91 he was living at 556 Church Street, Toledo, Ohio and working as a carpenter for the Wabash R. R., in Toledo.

If anyone from Oscoda can shed some light on where they may have gone on to, I'd be delighted to hear from you.

My ggg grandfather, Luke Peaslee (b. abt. 1800 in VT) purchased land in Oscoda Co. in 1888, according to an online search of Bureau of Land Management records. I am trying to find out when Luke died, so am anxious to know WHERE in Oscoda Co. he bought land. Here is part of the land description: ...section 26 in township 26 north of range one east of Michigan meridian. Does anyone know what township that would be? The state does not have a death record for Luke (searched up through 1896), so I am looking at cemeteries as well. Does anyone know of Peaslees buried in this area? Is there an 1890 or 1895 census for Oscoda Co.? And which town is No. 26? Thanks in advance!
