I have recently discovered my VERBURG connection in Allegan County (Fillmore & Laketown Twps.) and the fact that the city of Holland is in both Allegan and Ottawa counties. After a fruitful trip to the Allegan County Clerk's Office I have many VERBURG records, but now have some serious questions. Is anyone on the Ottawa County list searching VERBURG?
Pieter VERBURG, b. 1834 Cortgene, Zeeland, NLD, and his wife, Helena VADER, who married in Kalamazoo, MI 1869, are living in Fillmore Twp. 1880 census. Their children are Simon, Jan, Geerard/Gerard
His brother, Garret/Geerhard/Gerard VERBURG, b. 1841 Cortgene, Zeeland, NLD, and his wife, Johanna OSENWAARDE, who also married in Kalamazoo, MI 1869, are living in Laketown, Allegan County 1880 census. With them is their mother, Leuntje WOLSE/WALSE VERBURG, b. 1802 Kortgene, widow of Simon VERBURG. Their children are: Johannes, Simon, Cornelia, Jan/John, Peter, Leuntje, David.
In 1900 there is a Simon VERBURG and his wife, Josephine HOVENGA(?) living in Fillmore, Allegan, MI 1900 census with their children: Lena/Helena, Johanon and Peter. Which Simon is this? Son of Pieter or Garret/Geerhard/Gerard?
I am hoping someone will recognize anyone here and help me sort out the duplications of the given names.
