John Cornely (1840-1906)

I am in the possession of some original genealogy related papers of John Cornely. I would like to find a descendant or researcher of this family. John was born August 1840 in Germany, to Anton Cornely and Mary Muhlbuch. He married Elizabeth, they had at least three children Anna, born about 1867; Mary, born about 1870; and Mollie, born about 1875. He lived in Higgins, Roscommon, Michigan. He died on 8 October 1906 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan. If you are related please email me. I would love to have these papers back in the family. I am not related to this family. A friend purchased some items at an auction and a pouch of papers was included.

This is Dave's cousin Emie. I was thinking of David alot today and googled his name and found this. David was killed by a snow mobile while he was walking home from the bar. Yhe coroner called me and told me of the accident,Dave had a Christmas card from me in his pocket and that was how thet found me.I was asked if there were any siblings and I gave nancy's name. After that I was totally shut out. Nancy, Dauna or Pam would speak to me. Maybe they thought there was money, and maybe there was, I don't know. I just wanted to attend his funeral or memorial and was never informed of one. I don't believe they had any type of service for him at all. I believe he was cremated and buried with his folks. If I can help in any way please feel free to contact me. I still have the Betty Crocker cookbook you and Dave gave to me as a wedding gift. My husband passed away 13 years ago from a heart attack and I still reside in MI with my daughter. I hope to hear from you. Sincerely, Emie Gallagher

Not related, just volunteering. Don't know if you have census info on this family or not? I find them going back at least to 1850 in US. Of course there are some interesting spelling variations along the way, which is not uncommon. Usual is Knatt v. Knott and Walace v. Wallace, but there are others too, all minor, but makes for some digging!

In case you don't have them, here are the census I found and some other tidbits thrown in, which I believe is same man/line. Best I can do with reading some of the horrible writing. Ah, the fun of the hunt! Hope this helps. This takes you backward quite a ways; perhaps others will provide you more current info. He was listed in Roy Hartmans obituary in 1956 in Unionville as residing in Houghton Lake.At some point his other brother John also resided there.Finding him has been very difficult. His parents were August and Amrietta ( various spellings ) Burke Hartman.Any help would be appreciated and kept confidential. Thanks John Hartman

Your Grandparents lived on the Central Michigan Land Company settlement. It was really a "company town". Church sevices were performed at the schoolhouse. In February of 1908 it was reported that a new bookkeeper was at the Fruit Farm. That same month the first church services were reported. Undoubtable your Grandfather. Services were mentioned at Easter 1908 at the managers house. In April 1908 they mentioned having their own minister and their being two good sermons each Sunday including Sunday school. Rev. O. B. Anstead is named. New bookkeeper is reported by July of 1910. More information if you are interested. Do not know where to stop.

I am not sure if we are talking about the same people. Warner Marvin was married to my great aunt Velma P
patarks. They had a daughter Betty Jean who had MS and is also deceased. Velma died November 1984 and I don't know when Warner died. To my knowledge Warner was a brick mason and not a school teacher.

I am in St Charles, Mi

If you have obituaries for your parents that would be great.
I have obits for Aunt Law & Uncle Alfred, plus I believe I also have them for your mother's 2 sisters and their husbands.
Alice & Gerald were the ones I had very limited info on.
I have pictures, obits and other items for Aunt Lau's parents. Even a 'get together picture from a 1939 reunion of the Wells.
I have some info on Aunt Law's sisters and a very little on her only brother. He is proving to be difficult to track down & I knew him the best as we would stop & visit when we went to Tiger games or were visiting Dad's sons by his first marriage.
If you don't get a lot of replies from me for the week I received company at 5:50 a.m. from MD!!!!! My daughter & her family came into town for a visit & my USMC grandson (from a different daughter) will be home for good by Wed.
Sharon

Sue ~
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I thought I might get company from MD & have been tearing up my apartment to be ready for their arrival so genealogy was put on the back burner. Decided to catch up on e-mail this morning & saw that you had replied to my item on this message board.
When I mentioned Roscommon I was just going by what was listed on SSDI as Gerald's last residence.
Laura (Wells) Legg was my great aunt & I remember visiting her in Milford in the late 1950's - early 1960's with my parents.
I never met her husband, Alfred, and can't say I knew she had children, much less met any of them.
Laura (Aunt Law) was a sister to my grandmother (Della Wells/Cross).
I have found a lot of information & records for Aunt Law, have some obituaries for her family but your mother & father was one I could only find SSDI.
I would love any other information you might want to share on your mother, father & grandparents.
Depending on what you have and if you are reearching Aunt Law's sisters I might have items to share with you.
Sharon

Thanks for your post. I actually have all of this. What I'm really looking for is data on them when they lived in Roscommon County. They lived in Nester Township, on the Nolan Fruit Farm in 1908-1910. Orlie was a Baptist Minister and worked part time as a bookkeeper in a general store. My mother, Iva, was born there in what was referred to in family leters as a log cabin on the Nolan Fruit Farm. I'd like to know if the church where he was pastor, the store where he worked or the Nolan Fruit Farm are still in existence and if so are pictures available.

I am trying to confirm info I received that Alice Legg married a Gerald Fordyce and that at one time they lived in Roscommon. I have found SSDI for an Alice and Gerald. Gerald's has his last residence as Roscommon; dob 7 Jan 1919; dod 29 June 2003. Alice Legg was the daughter of my Great Aunt & Uncle (Laura E. (Wells) & Alfred Legg. I have a possible dob for her of 9 Sept. 1920; possible dod of March 1971. I do know she did die before her sister, Doris (Legg) Bridgman as she is not listed as surviving as her other sister, Irene (Legg) Wade is. Is there anyone who might have access to Roscommon oits that might confirm the information I've found so far? Or maybe cemetery info? Or anything that can help me?
Sharon in Toledo OH
