Ketha A HOWK
Sturgis ~ Ketha A Howk, 95, formerly of 33985 Deer Park Road, Burr Oak, and a lifelong Burr Oak resident, died November 29, 1997 at Thurston Woods Village, Sturgis.
She was born August 29, 1902 in Burr Oak, a daughter of John M and Alta Marie (Decker) Start. On October 22, 1922, she married Vern Howk.
A graduate of Burr Oak High School, she attended Western Michigan University (Normal), and taught in country schools. During the war she was employed by Victor Screw Products of Burr Oak.
She was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist church and the Commission on Aging, and she enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Getzloff of Burr Oak; one son, John N. Howk of Port Charlotte, Florida; three grandchildren, Christine A. Minor of Burr Oak, Susan Pulliam of Pennsylvania, and John M. Howk of Coldwater; and three great-grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her husband; one infant son; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; one brother, Victor Decker Sr; and one sister, Bernadine Start.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and burial of the remains will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the Burr Oak High School. Envelopes are available at the Rosenberg-Schipper Funeral Home of Sturgis, which handled the arrangements.
