Wolcottville, Ind.; Simon B. SCHWARTZ, 85, of 7240S-075, Wolcottville, Ind., died Aug. 22, 2001, at the home of his daughter, Rose CHAPMAN. He had been in declining health.

He was born April 3, 1916, in Berne, Ind., a son of John P. and Barbara (SCHWARTZ) SCHWARTZ. He spent most of his life in LaGrange County and in Michigan.

On July 11, 1938, he married Mary YODER. She died Aug. 6, 1983.

He was a carpenter his entire life and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Surviving are; three daughters, Barbara CHAPMAN and Rose M. and Jim CHAPMAN, both of Nottawa, Mich. and Mary Ellen and Eli HELMUTH of Middlebury; three sons, Jacob B. and Martha and John and Mary, both of Sturgis, and Marvin B. and Mary Anna of Wolcottville; 38 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mahlon (Rose) MILLER of Sarasota, Fla., and Mrs. Neil (Racheal) HOSTETLER of Centreville, Mich.; and five brothers, John “Mike” and Solomon of Berne, Abraham of Centreville, Mich., Amos of Geneva and Joe of Grabill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; a son, Pete; a son-in-law, Robert CHAPMAN; a granddaughter, a step-granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, six brothers and six sisters.

Visitation will be all day Saturday and Sunday at the home of Marvin Schwartz, 7240S-075W, Wolcottville, Ind. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the home of Ezra H. Bontrager, 1305 W-700S, Wolcottville. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, LaGrange.

Arrangements are being handled by the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home of Middlebury.
