Peter DRENTH of Decatur, passed away Sunday, March 21, 1999 at his daughter’s home in Portage, MI. Peter was born October 21, 1904 in Oostwold-Gronigen, The Netherlands, the son of Menno and Tillie (KING) DRENTH. He came to the U.S. in 1920, and had lived in the Decatur area most of his life. He was formerly employed by New York Central Railroad for several years, and also farmed mint, celery and onions in Decatur for many years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Workers Union and the Hamilton Township Grange. He married Sophie SAFIN December 28, 1932 in Decatur, and she survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Tillie PETERSON of Kalamazoo, Dolores (Robert) SCOBEY of Portage, MI, Patricia (Gary) GIBSON of Richland, MI; a son, Charles (Lorraine) DRENTH of Decatur; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marilyn Joyce DRENTH; 2 sisters, Helen BREWER and Emma STAM; and by 2 brothers, Emo DRENTH and John DRENTH. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 1 p.m. in the Newell Funeral Home, Decatur, with Mr. James Abshagen officiating. Burial in Harrison Cemetery, Decatur.
