Looking to find out if & when GLENN TANNER & CLIFFORD TANNER lived in this county. Glenn died in 1966 in Ypsilanti - he was originally from Illinois but for some reason ended up here. Dates for him would have been from late 1964 to 1966 if he's there.
Also looking for Glenn's father CLIFFORD TANNER who died somewhere in Michigan (SSDI only states MI not the county) wondering if perhaps Glenn went to visit his father - would appreciate any assistance next time you head off to the library.
Thank you!
Lisa

Hi - I am a librarian (and genealogy addict) in Washtenaw County, MI. I found the attached article in the Ypsilanti Times, Mon. Feb. 14, 1966. Although his name isn't mentioned, this looks to be a match for your Glenn Tanner. I see on findagrave.com that he is buried in Wolf Creek Cemetery, as is mentioned in this article. I assume he had i.d. on him that said he was a resident of Pontiac, MI?? Pontiac is an hour away from Ypsilanti, so this adds to your mystery of why he was where he was. Perhaps you could check the Pontiac newspapers for mention of his death? You could also contact the funeral home mentioned in the article - Moore Funeral home is known as Stark (Moore) funeral home now. They have a website: http://www.starkfuneral.com/
Hope this helps!
Darla

Hoping someone is willing to do a newpaper article look-up for me. My husbands father GLENN EDWARD TANNER died Feb. 13 1966 in (we are told) Ypsilanti. There is a death certificate in Washtenaw Co. MI for him ~ we are looking for any newpaper obit or article concerning his death. Elder family members say he was found dead in his car. thinking there may not be an obit but hoping there might be some article of this in a local paper. We do not know why he was in Michigan ~ he lived in Southern Illinois.
Any help in this would be appreciated. When he died my husband was only 8 months old & he would like to know as much as possible about his father.
Thank you in advance for any help!
Lisa

I don't know if you have access to ancestry's databases or not, but sometimes things are mis-transcribed or mis-indexed. City directories up to the 1950s show Gottlob in Ann Arbor, so we know he was there in 1930.

I did an exact search on ancestry, using Ann Arbor, Washtenaw, Michigan as the place and searched for people born 1867 +/- 2 years born in Germany. I then scrolled through the list that came up and found Gottlob A Knohn... which is understandable when you look at the actual census - the u or n is smudged.

1930 United States Federal Census
about Gottlob A Knohn

Name: Gottlob A Knohn
Gender: Male
Birth Year: abt 1867
Birthplace: Germany
Race: White
Home in 1930: Ann Arbor, Washtenaw, Michigan

Marital Status: Married
Immigration Year: 1888
Relation to Head of House: Head
Spouse's Name: Anna Knohn
Father's Birthplace: Germany
Mother's Birthplace: Germany
Occupation:
Education:
Military service:
Rent/home value:
Age at first marriage:
Parents' birthplace:

Household Members:
Name Age
Gottlob A Knohn 63
Anna Knohn 62
Paul Knohn 5 (Adopted son)
Richard Corwin 7 (grand son)
Julia Knohn 30 (daughter)

Here's the family on the 1910 Census:

1910 United States Federal Census

Name: Clara Kuehn [Kuohn]
Age in 1910: 8
Birth Year: abt 1902 [1902]
Birthplace: Michigan
Home in 1910: Ann Arbor Ward 2, Washtenaw, Michigan
Race: White
Gender: Female
Relation to Head of House: Daughter
Marital Status: Single
Father's Name: Gottlob A Kuehn
Father's Birthplace: Germany
Mother's Name: Anna C Kuohn
Mother's Birthplace: Germany

Household Members:
Name Age
Gottlob A Kuehn 43
Anna C Kuohn 42
Anna Kuohn 17
Frieda Kuohn 14
Ernst Kuohn 12
Julia Kuohn 10
Clara Kuohn 8
After his marriage in 1817 to Naomi (Scramling) Sanford, in Mendon, OntarioCo NY., by the 1840 Census they were in Ypsilanti Twp.,WashtenawCo. MI. In that census, John's age was stated as "50-59" (possible error) while Naomi's age was "40-49". They had three living children - two b. in NY and one in MI. I have not found them in an 1850 census.

I cannot find a source for the date of death for John OR Naomi in WashtenawCo. and would appreciate suggestions on finding those. I am not familiar with where to ask this question - or where to find the answer! I can find no answers Online.
Thanks for your suggestions, Patricia

Thank you very much for this information. It tells me that the Youngs stayed in Washtenaw Co, but that 'my' John Canavans either moved away, or weren't found by the census-taker, or had died before the 1850 census.

I have seen the records of the Kalamazoo area Canavans, and they arrived in the US later, and were not connected to the John Canavan who married in 1817.

I will continue my search, and thank you for your kindness.
Lee,

The death records from 1920 to 1950 have been transcribed by FamilySearch and were completed in early January. Everyone is now waiting for them to be put on-line at the FamilySearch website.

https://familysearch.org/

Hopefully you can wait and check the site on a weekly basic like the rest of us.

Ron Morey

Patricia,

Family Search has loaded census records at their website:

https://familysearch.org/

that are free for you to access.

Their is a database for each census year. Most of the years also allow access to copies of the actual census for free.

Ron Morey

I would appreciate knowing whether Two surnames appear on that Index:

CANAVAN/CANIVAN/CANOVAN/CENEVAN, etc.: J.S./John, or widow Naomi

YOUNG: Henry, or widow Mary

Both couples migrated from MonroeCo NY in abt 1834 - to Sections 25, 26, & 13 of Augusta Twp., and appeared in the 1840 census as "CANIVAN" - but spelling can be iffy and there is a need to be creative! Thank you SO much. Patricia
(I do not have a subscription to Ancestry..)

I’m not related to any member of this family.

1940 is the last available census at this time.

Most counties do not permit "public" browsing of vital records. You will need to order death cert. from either the state or the Washtenaw County Clerks Office.

DO NOT ORDER A DEATH CERT FOR A MARRIED WOMAN USING HER MAIDEN NAME.

Free online death records stop at 1920.

I am descended from Alonzo and Euphemia Healy's son Joseph Allen born 1851. He married a Mary Catherine Cronley of Shelby County, OH, in 1873 and they eventually moved on to Indianapolis where he died in 1917. I am interested in finding out if there is an obituary on John Raser, Euphemia's father. He was 84 in the 1870 Census of Washtenaw County and living with the Healy family at the time. He is not listed in 1880, indicating his death sometime in the 1870 decade. I am unable to find a death record or burial info. If any local library has obituary indexes for the time, he might be listed. Any info would be greatly appreciated
