Try the Burton Historical Collection of the main Detroit Library for a lookup in the 1938 directory. They might do one or two, not sure.

Otherwise, try the Bentley Historical LIbrary in Ann Arbor. Not sure what years they have for the Detroit directories. They will make copies for a fee.
