If he died in Detroit, the Burton Historical Collection (BHC) of the main Detroit Public LIbrary has an index to the City of Detroit deaths from about 1920 to present. They will do a look up.

Once you have the date of death, contact the following for newspaper articles or obituaries. There is a fee.

If he is not listed in the Detroit death index, look at the online index to Wayne County deaths on the BHC'w website to see if he is listed.

If none of the above work, the Michigan County death certificates (1921-1951) were indexed by the Mormon Church and are in the process of arbitration. Once that is finished you will be able to see them on the www.FamilySearch.org website.
