Alfred or Fred J Pilette (born about 1867
possibly in Tecumseh, essex county, Canada) arriving in US about 1880 ?. Lived in the wayne
county area. He married an Amanda Moisan (b abt 1867 in Quebec) They married
when they were 20 (so about 1887) and had a Thomas Gideon Pilette. They were
both french canadian. He was a stationary engineer working for a fuel supply
company according to the 1930 census. His parents Janvier Pilette and Julienne Desmarais. We have been told that the Pilette's were one of the original familes in Detroit and that Alfred's grandfather or
great-grandfather married a Chippewa Indian. I haven't been able to find anything
after Janvier. And am also having trouble with the birth dates for Thomas Pilette. He could have been born in Michigan or Canada. I know his children were born in wayne county michigan. He married a Helen Bernadine Husted (from New Jersey)and also had a son named Thomas Gideon Pilette (born Dec 30 1922 and died in 1971) daughters Anntoinette(b?d?) and Joan (b 1921 d 1992) and a living son.Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Tammy
(I had posted this to another link but have found more information since that posting)
Detroit, Michigan area Ostrowskis and related families project

Hello,

I've posted the result of work on Ostrowski families and related individuals that were in the Detroit, Michigan area. This information is based on the Detroit city directories, US census records, and Michigan vital records on FamilySearchLabs.

A good page to start is in the name index, but everything is linkable:
http://www.dealraider.com/gene/detroitostrowskis/names16.htm...

If you had any Detroit-area Ostrowskis, please take a look and see if you link in or know any more information on these families. Please send me an email here or through the site with any information updates you have. If you have any information that would prove that some of these people are duplicates of each other, I'd be grateful.

I did this work because I'm trying to find the ancestral village of my ancestor Vincent Ostrowski (1860-1939). By surveying all the Ostrowskis in the area, I hoped to link together with some other families who may be easier to trace the ancestral village. After all this effort, I have not been able to accomplish that yet, but the work is hopefully useful to everyone else.

Thank You!

p.s. I'm primarily looking for my ancestral village in Poland (West Prussia) of Vincent Ostrowski (b 1860 - d 1939, married to Julia Radzikowska). After a lot of work, my best hint is still the Hamburg Passenger List that gives a town that looks like Kl. Conja, but I have not found a matching record yet on any towns. If you have any information, please contact me, I also have a big reward for anyone that prove the original village! :)

Captain, later Major Fitzgibbon was with the 14th Michigan Volunteer Infantry. He died at his home in Detroit on June 5, 1865 of wounds suffered while with Gen. Sheman Fitzgibbon was editor of "The Detroit Guardian" a weekly that published during 1860. 1860 census places him in Detroit, as an editor with wife Sarah and son Charles.
Civil War records list Major Fitzgibbon favorably many times. His ceremonial sword was recently found and is now in the hands of a civil war collector
We have not been able to locate his burial site, nor locate information on his whereabouts prior to 1860.
Any information would be appreciated.

I cannot find her grave anywhere or a record of her anywhere. Also looking for Edward Barbaret JR. died 7-20-1891 at 15 years old same thing no grave site. The Barbarets have 7 graves at the grotto and only 2 people buried in them. They had a farm at Whittier and Kelly

Peter MICEK arrived in the US in July 1880 from Galicia with his wife Mary and five children, John, Catherine, Anna, Stanislaus and Albert. The family immediately went to Detroit, Michigan where Peter & Mary then had Thomas Frank, Mary Magdalena, Rose and possibly more children. Peter MICEK is my great-great grandfather.

I am trying to find the parents/siblings of Peter, his wife Mary’s maiden name, and also where they came from in Poland. Here is what I do know:

Peter MICEK (b. abt 1842 Poland, d.1924, Detroit)
Mary (WRONA?) MICEK (b. abt 1847 Poland, d. 1936, Detroit)
1 - John MICEK (b. abt 1867 Poland, died 1923, Detroit
*married Magdelena BARAN – children Clara, Dorothy,
Joseph John, Blanche, Bridget
2 - Catherine MICEK (b. 4 Nov 1869 Poland, d 1941 Detroit
*married John PRZEBIENDA - child Mary
*married Greg PAWLISKO - no children
3 - Anna MICEK (b. abt 1872 Poland)
*possibly married Frank SZALKOWSKI/SATKOWSKY(??)in
Detroit and died before 1910 – possible child John
4. Stanislaus MICEK (b. abt 1877 Poland, d 1910 Detroit),
appears to have changed his name to Stephen, and
*married Rose SCHROEDER – children Leo and Stanley
5. Albert MICEK (b. Apr 1880 – Poland) - no other info
6. Thomas F. MICEK (b. 1882 Detroit)
*married Pauline URBAN – no children
7. Mary Magdelena MICEK (b.1884 Detroit, d 1949)
*married Louis KORYCKI
8. Rozalia MICEK (b. 1895 Detroit, d. 1975)
*married Frank GURKA

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

-- Susan Micek
Hello Wayne County,
I am hoping to find a photo in one of the Dearborn High School Yearbooks (1949-1951). Is there anyone out there that can do this for me? I would be happy to reimburse for time and a copy of the picture. I've e-mailed the Dearborn Historical Society, who I believe has the yearbooks, but received no response yet. Is there anybody in the Dearborn area that can help me with this? I need it for a special birthday surprise in August. Thanks for any help. Marianne in CA

Alexander Boudreau, b. in Québec, possible son of Louis-Michel Boudreau & Marie-Josèphe Nault

While helping a Boudreau cousin try to find her family, we connected her Alphonse BOUDREAU and his brother Celestin through baptismal records to Louis-Michel BOUDREAU and Marie-Josephe NAULT.

With further baptismal records, I've been able to build this family:

LOUIS-MICHEL BOUDREAU (s/o ISAÏE & MARIE-JOSÈPHE GERMAIN-BELISLE) was born 29 Sep 1782 in Deschambault, Québec, Canada, and died 01 Apr 1847 in Montréal, Québec, Canada. He married MARIE-JOSÈPHE NAULT 09 Jan 1804 in Deschambault, Québec, Canada, daughter of PAUL NAULT and MARIE-JOSÈPHE JEAN-DENIS. She was born 26 Jan 1784 in Deschambault, Québec, Canada, and died 20 Sep 1843 in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

Children of LOUIS-MICHEL BOUDREAU and MARIE-JOSÈPHE NAULT are:
i. MARIE-MELANIE BOUDREAU, b. 25 Sep 1803, Deschambault, Québec, Canada; d. 13 May 1818, Deschambault, Québec, Canada.
ii. LOUIS-CHARLES BOUDREAU, b. 10 Feb 1805, Deschambault, Québec, Canada.
iii. MARIE-JOSÈPHE BOUDREAU, b. 12 Nov 1806, Deschambault, Québec, Canada.
iv. MARIE-LOUISE BOUDREAU, b. 14 Dec 1808, Deschambault, Québec, Canada.
v. JOSEPH-ISAÏE BOUDREAU, b. 07 Nov 1810, Deschambault, Québec, Canada; d. 29 Jul 1812, Deschambault, Québec, Canada.
vi. JOSEPH-ISAÏE BOUDREAU, b. 04 Dec 1812, Deschambault, Québec, Canada.
vii. LOUIS-JÉRÔME BOUDREAU, b. 02 Sep 1815, Deschambault, Québec, Canada.
viii. FREDERICK ISAMBERT BOUDREAU, b. 17 Jan 1818, Deschambault, Québec, Canada.
ix. ALPHONSE BOUDREAU, b. 08 Nov 1823, Montréal, Québec, Canada.
x. PIERRE-CELESTIN BOUDREAU, b. 08 Jul 1826, Montréal, Québec, Canada.

In the IGI there is an Alexander Boudreau listed, supposedly born 1 Oct 1812 in Montréal to "Louis Boudreau" and "Josette Nau". Considering they had a child born in December 1812 in Deschambault, there is no way that they could have had a child named Alexandre born 1 Oct 1812 in Montréal. In fact, I've not been able to find any baptismal record for an Alexandre born to this couple. But, he could have been born in 1811, 1813, 1814, 1816, 1818, 1819, 1820, 1821 or 1822 if the "1 Oct" was correct, and he was fibbing about his age.

Also according to the IGI this Alexander Boudeau married a Victoria Gagnier in 1855 (no place given).

In the 1850 Census, Allegheny Twp, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, there are two Boudreau gentlemen who were born in Canada and list "cooper" as their occumpation. The older one was 30-year-old Frederick (believed to be Frederick Isambert Boudreau), and the second one was 28-year-old Alexander.

Also in Allegheny Twp in that Census there is listed a 4-year-old "Lewis BUDROW" in the home of William & Agness KERR, the future in-laws of Frederick Isambert BOUDREAU (he married their daughter Elizabeth). Little Lewis BOUDREAU was born in Pennsylvania.

In the 1860 Census, Ward 6 of Detroit, Michigan, there is listed:
Alec Budro 36 year old male born in Canada occupation: Cooper
Victor Budro 34 year old female born in Michigan
Louis Budro 15 year old male born in Pennsylvania

I can find neither Alexandre nor Louis in the 1870 Census.
Does anyone know about this Alexander Boudreau who married Victoria Gagnier and presumably had a son named Louis from an unknown first marriage?
Thank you! ~~Bren
Hi, I’m searching for information regarding a manufacturing company that used to exist (or possibly still does exist) in Detroit, Michigan. The company was apparently renowned for the school hardware products that it made, and was in operation during the 1940s, 50s and 60s. I believe the owner was a Robert Schieber, who originally descends from the village of Liemersbach in Wurttemberg, Germany.

I would be extremely grateful for any information that can be offered. Thank you in advance.
I'm afraid I don't have an exact date. 1924 is on his headstone. He was the son of Katarzyna Szabla & Antoni Gawlikowski. His siblings eventually changed their last name to Gawlik, but in 1924 they used Gawlikowski. Any information would be greatly appreciated. THANKS! Stephanie

Rescued Photos, TODD & LANG Surnames, Wayne Co. MI

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them. I have one of a boy, identified as James Floyd Lang, and it state his birthday was Sept. 17, 1884. The photographer was in Monroe, MI.

Normally this is where I say, Contact me if you'd like to obtain this photo. (And you can). But I realized that I hold another photo, from an area close to where this young boy was raised. It's a photo card from a young suiter, named Nathan, and sent as a Christmas greeting to a young lady named Callie Todd, of New Boston, MI. (Wayne Co.)

In trying to determine if James was a Lang-there was a question on the hand writing, I did a search on another genealogy site. I located a WWI draft registration for a James Floyd LANG with the same birthday, living in Monroe.
Where I'm going with this is, his wife, is listed as Callie TODD LANG. Now I'd like to know if anyone out there knows of this couple and if they might know who her previous beau, Nathan was.

I'd like to get these photos into the hands of family. If you'd like to obtain it, please contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com for details.

Kathy

Lasecki, Moraniec, Garbaczyk, Biedroj, and Dick families in the Detroit area

I am looking for all the above families who lived in the detroit area the end of the 19th century onwards.

Walter Lasecki was born in 1894 in Michigan. His mother's name was Michaline/Michalina/Margaret. Her maiden name may have been Dick. Both his mother and father were Polish, though they may be listed as Prussian.

Walter married Helen Moraniec in Detroit and they had two daughters--Priscilla Helen Lasecki and Gladys Lasecki.

Helen Moraniec's parents were Joseph Moraniec and Josephine Garbaczyk, both of Poland/Prussia. They had several children--Mary, Ludwika (Lucy), Sophie, Alexander, and of course, Helen.

Joseph Moraniec got married again in 1907 in Detroit after Josephine died, to a Theresa/Teresa Biedroj.

If anyone has any information on these people, or how I could find these people I would appreciate it greatly.
Is there a site online where you can check owner names from 1940-1950 for residential property in Wayne County...a free site? Also can someone help me with a Death Index for 1950 to
1975 for Anna/Anne/Ann Kowal or Kowel, divorced, husband was William, son Joseph, daughters Mary, Katherine and Harriet. I'd would return the favor if you need something from the Library of Congress or a record only available in Washington, DC...I live in this area. Again, thank you.

I'm looking for info regarding my great grand father J Hermas Charette and his oncle Joe Charette. As per my g-grand father's border crossing document from Canada to Michigan on November 2, 1928 uncle Joe Charette (his arrival contact) lived @ 665 Warren Ave. Detroit Michigan. Joe(Joseph) was a French Canadian and I believe he was born sometime around 1867. The son of Pierre and Julie Charette. Any info would better great. This may or may not help, but my g-grand father's occupation was listed as a harness maker.
Thank you

I am again offering Detroit City Directory 1904-1910 lookups from film I have on extended loan at my FHC.
PLEASE FOLLOW DIRECTIONS EXACTLY.
1. Send the request to me, not the list.
2. Put "SURNAME Detroit City Directory" in subject line. YOUR surname, not the word SURNAME. One to an email.
3. That's all you need unless the name is common, in which case please add such things as first name, occupation, addresses from 1910/1900 censuses, etc. I don't care about anything else re the family--this is not a census but a directory of WORKING people, not children, etc.
4. Don't make your email so long that it prints out longer than one page at my end. You don't need to repeat these instructions.
5. Be patient. It takes about four months to find all six years for you, but I think it is really worthwhile. Think about renting other years yourself to share.
Elizabeth
