Marine Reporter 'Biff' O'Conner, Port Huron
Between 75 and 80 years ago two of my uncles Russ and Tom Ginn, and a friend, all 3 in their teens, found an old row boat. They caulked the seams, added a deck, rudder, mast and sail. Worked on it quite a while. One day they skipped school and went sailing on the St. Clair River. Somewhere near Sarnia, they got caught in the 'up current'. The sail jibbed and before long they were on the outside of the boat, heading down stream. A marine reporter, named Biff O'Conner or Connor, or similar, rescued them. On shore they were asked what they were doing out there. My uncle Tom said 'We're in the River Rat Yacht Club'. The boys got in trouble for skipping school. The story was picked up by the Detroit paper as well as the Flint and Port Huron papers. How can I find the article? Does anyone know of this reporter?
