Several of the STALEY family of Wolfe Island, Ontario were
mariners in the late 1800s. The following sons of Martin Staley and his
wife Catherine Johanna Lambert were Captains on lake vessels. Martin Staley
Jr. captained the following vessels: St. Andrews Napier America Ayr Wave
Crest Laurel (Sloop) Purched by Capt. Staley in FEb. 1873 for $2,200 from
Capt. Redford. The Laurel was lost off Oswego, NY the fall of 1876 Captain
Charges STALEY Khartoum (Schooner) Gaskin (Schooner) Ralph F. Holcolb
(Steamer) Queen of the Lakes (Schooner) Morning Star (Schooner)Owned by
Captain Gaskin ran ashore 7 miles east of Oswego, NY and was a total wreck,
cargo was barley. George Thurston (Barque) Others of the family who were
