I found Hindricka and Charles living in Chicago in the 1910 and 1920 census. Through those, Charles never married.

I found the 1890 Grand Rapids City directory listed Jacob as a Jacob as a Janitor, living with Dennis J, Anna M, and John J.

That's about all I'm able to find on any of them. I suspect the spelling of the names got changed at some point.

Hope this helps some.

Mike

Thank you Mike,
I think it's a good clue. Tjalling Wolthuis has possibly changed his name to Charles Wolthuis. He died 1944 in Cook County Illinois.his birth year is correct 1876. I couldn't find anything else. What happened to the other children, did they got children Did Charles got children?

Good Evening - My name is Thomas. I can be reached at king4325@att.net. I am looking for members of the Braun family, specifically family members related to Frank, Florence, Aggie, and Laura Braun. I came across a few Braun family pictures I wanted to pass along. Theye are dated 1938. The names are Frank, Florence, Aggie, and Laura. I do not know the location, but assume they were taken in mid-Michigan (one picture includes my own father, who was from mid-Michigan and a friend of the Braun family).

I possibly found Hinderika residing in Chicago, Cook, IL in 1900 census. She is listed as born in Nov 1838 in Holland, coming to the US in 1884. She lives with a son "listed" as Charles, born in 1877, Holland. It's possible the census taker mistook Tjalling as "Charlie"...

The census record is Chicago Ward 6, District 171, Page 4.

Hinderika is listed as widowed, and having two children, two living. Don't trust the total number much, but maybe two children had died by this time.

Mike

You may already have this death info, from this web site
http://seekingmichigan.org/
Jacob died, a widow, April 18. 1919 in Kent county MI. Informant is noted as J.?. Kertstern, a little hard to read the writing. Not sure if this is a relative, the address is the same as for Jacob, 1450 E. Fulton St. In the 1900 census he is in Grand Rapids, in a home for the aged, noted as divorced, born January 1840.

In Polk County, Florida 1942 Robert J Goddin and Ethel D Jackson married. It's my understand they had 2 daughters and later went to the Detroit, MI area to live, where both Robert & Ethel passed away in the 1980s. We are looking for their daughters, to reunite with family in Florida. So if anyone knows anything about these 2 women (probably born in the mid to late 1940s), would like to hear from you or them. Thanks.
Thanks for the info---this connection to the Haywood family is completely unknown to me. I had come up with a lot of info from what my relatives had gathered through the years but the dates just didn't add up.

Now I'm finding that all the relatives that we thought we had just couldn't be related to us at all, so in effect I have no idea who's related to Edna Mellon (or Cline) ie, brothers, sisters, etc.

Thank you very much!

That is a ton of information for me to pour over now...

You are correct---I slipped a little, Edna was not the mother of Robert (his mother is Ida Bush). Too many times typing out Edna's and Ida's I guess.

At any rate, thank you! I see another new avenue for research.

The mystery of Edna Mellon (Mellen?)/Edna Cline

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to track down my g-g-grandmother, Edna MELLON (maybe MELLEN). The only documentation I have with her on it is in the Florida Death Index where she's listed as mother of the deceased, Robert Latham, and that she was born in Payne, Illinois (which I cannot find, either in township, city, or county form).

However, Robert's marriage register in Ohio lists his bride as Edna CLINE, born in Michigan to one T. Cline (father). It also shows she was born in 1878.

Family story has it that she was born a Mellon, then eloped with a man named Cline, whereby the family cut her off from the money (supposedly they were linked with the Mellon bank families). Then a tradjedy befell Mr. Cline right after he had two children (Paul Cline and Cal Cline). So Edna Mellon CLINE then married Robert Latham (the boys were adopted and Paul, my g-grandfather used the name Latham for the rest of his life and those of his descendants).

Obviously, something is going on here, because if the marriage register in Ohio is correct then Edna was born a Cline and the Mellon part is just so much hot air. However, I got to thinking that perhaps because the mother of the bride was not listed, maybe T. Cline is there because her family cut her off and she used her first husband's name as "father". Oddly, in 1904 (the date of her marriage to Robert Latham) she would have been 26, which in theory was enough time to have eloped and had 2 children, then losing a spouse, before marrying again.

I have a feeling there is some kernel of truth to the family story, but at the moment, either way, I can find no reference for Edna Cline in Michigan (b.1878) or Edna Mellon in Illinois.

If anyone has any information or even suggestions on what to try next, I'd greatly appreciate it! Of course, I'd be willing to share any information I have on the Clines, Lathams and many other families I'm researching!

Thanks for helping!

Steve

I'm sending this in case you are unaware. I'm no relation to the family, but have members of my family from the town of Sturgis in St. Joseph County, Michigan. The town is the namesake of Judge John Sturgis, per a Wikipedia artical at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgis,_MI.

Mike

I'm not sure if this could be the family you seek. If Robert's middle name is Albin, and his year of birth could be more like 1906, then this might be of interest:

On the 1900 census in Filer MI, Manistee county:
TELUF, Martin 26 Poland
wife Maggie 22 MI parents born Poland
they are wed one year
next door to them is a person whose name is indexed as FZSKOSKI, (looks more like Toskoski to me)John 48 Poland, married, but he is living alone. No relationship is noted to Martin and Maggie.

1910 Filer MI
TEELOW, Martin 36 (now says born Michigan)
wife Maggie 31
Celia 9 MI
Frank 6 MI
Albin 4 MI
Edmund 1yr 6 mos

I could not find this family in 1920 census.
I am not related.

You may also want to see the 1900 census in Lucas county OH for Lewis Haywood and wife Mary, with grandkids, last name of Klein, Gorman b. Nov 1893 IL, Paul b. Aug 1896 IL, and Helen b. Feb 1898 OH. Because the youngest was born in OH, it would seem to indicate that if their father died, it would likely be in Ohio also. This assumption is based on the places of birth given on the census, which seems to vary.

I have not been able to locate Robert in the MI or WI census. Sarah I have in the 1900, 1905, 1910 and 1920 census. Would love to locate a copy of Robert A. Teclaw/Tetzlaff birth record. I find a family tree here on Ancestry.com that might be his parents and a sister born in Muskegon, Michagan, USA

Please contact me directly jms@top2bottom.net as my uncle is one of Robert and Sarah's children and is still living and I try these days not to give out info on the living (not to say I haven't screwed up on that in the past).

Thank you

Thank you Mike but our Sturgis group were more scattered and originally came to Canada via Connecticut and then from Ontario a few moved into Michigan. The ones in Sturgis Michigan were originally from Pennsylvania I believe. I will however read the article to check whether I am totally correct or not

I am based in the UK but researching the Sturgis family in Canada and Michigan. There is an article dealing with the family bible, the last holder of which was Bernard Sturgis who migrated to Mi in the late 1850s and died around 1910 in Allegan Co. There is a short article in the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research, vol. 51, No. 4, Summer 1988. It also appeared in the Michigander magazine in the late 1960s I believe. I would be so gratified if someone were willing to help me.

Notamis 2 - Jim Sturgis
