Sunrise, Rush City and other river towns in Chisago county share a lot of their history with the Wisconsin side of the river. The river valley was connected by many ferries and the people moved, shopped and traveled back and forth a lot in the 1800s through the end of the ferries in the mid 1900s.
I am working with a group of Wisconsin side people trying to create a history of the settlement along the St.Croix river north of St. Croix Falls(Taylors Falls) to Hwy 70 or so near Grantsburg.
We are looking for stories, pictures, information etc that will be included in the history book. We are interested in the people living on the border of the two states.
My relatives ran the Sunrise ferry for many years and lived on both sides of the river. The family name was Carnes.
