I was able to find information on William and Thomas Armstrong of Camden, and some information and a very nice biography on Thomas Ryan.
On page 412, Prominent among the pioneers not already mentioned located in this section would be William Armstrong.
On page 285, Thomas Armstrong is listed as being one of the first comers who were there previous to the 1st of January, 1856.
On page 479
"On the 11th of May, 1858 the first town {of Harmony} meeting was held and the following officers were elected:
Supervisors included Francis Craig, chairman
Thomas Ryan, Constable."
"The city officers in 1882 included Supervisors Thomas Ryan, Justice of the Peace William Craig, Constables Thomas Ryan and O.A. Craig."
On page 484, there is the following biography
"THOMAS RYAN is a native of Ireland, born in Tipperary county on the 1st of August, 1829. He moved to Canada in 1843, where he resided until 1856 when he came to Fillmore county and made a claim in this township. About a year later he sold his first purchase and located in section fourteen, his farm adjoining the village. He married Mary C. Craig, a native of New York. They have had thirteen children, nine of whom are living; Marry E., now Mrs. Terrance McCabe; Sybil, now Mrs. F. J. Hughes; John L., Cynthia M., William H., Lucinda J., now Mrs. John Dagen; Thomas E., Emma C., and Eva H. Mr. Ryan enlisted in the Third Minnesota Volunteer Infantry on the 28th of August, 1864, and served til the close of the war. Mrs. Ryan's parents, John and Elizabeth Craig, moved from Canada to Fillmore county. Mrs. Ryan is the only one of her father's family now living."
I am also including information on another Armstrong that was living in Canton township at the same time as William and Thomas. His name was Robert. I did not see him on your list but am including his information in case he is a possible relative.
On page 411, Robert Armstrong, the only one remaining of this colony {Elliott}, took the southwest corner of section thirty-three where his home has since been.
On page 412, The first girl born here must have been Eliza A. Armstrong, daughter of Robert and Eliza Armstrong, who was born on the 25th of July, 1853. She still lives in town.
Biography on page 419
"ROBERT ARMSTRONG, who came here in 1853, with the "Elliott colony" is the only one of that number now living in the town. He is a native of England, born near London, and reared in Manchester, where he served an apprenticeship of seven years at the cabinetmakers trade. He came to America in 1847, and worked at his trade in the Middle States a few years, then in Gloucester, New Jersey. On the 1st of January, 1849, he was joined in wedlock with Miss Eliza Demington. They resided in Philadelphia for a time, and in 1852, came to Rock Island, Illinois. The following spring they joined a company coming from Moline to Fillmore county, Minnesota. Mr. Armstrong took a farm in this township the same year which he improved, and also worked some at his trade, but now devotes his entire attention to agricultural pursuits. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong have had nine children, eight of whom are living."
We are still in the process of thoroughly indexing the book. If I come across any other information on the Armstrongs or Thomas Ryan, I will send the information along to you.
Please let me know if there are any other names you would like me to look up for you.
