Nancy, Joy is related to me so we likely have a lot of the same information. She will remember me as Ella's great granddaughter and I visited her in Pequot Lakes a few years back. Please do have her get in touch with me. My email is seashley02@gmail.com.

Thanks!
Sarah

It will take me a while to type out the info for per melin, I am not sure I have time for the next month, I am a slow typist, will try to get some of it done for you before I leave for sweden the fourth of july, but his fathers name is per jonsson Hägstrom, so think it may more likely be a soldier name than a farm name, but not sure per eric has two sisters, and his mother is brita onnesdotter berg.
I live in California, or I would get together with you, it might be easier to copy the pages on the copier and send them snail mail, also might be faster, write me at sueteam@bigfoot.com
Hello,
I just penned an answer and managed to loose it. You may get two.

Thank you so very much for your prompt and informative messages. I have just spoken to Joy Lotze who I have been working with. She has given me permission to send you her email address. It is - joy.lotze@mac.com. Joy would appreciate being in contact with you. I am sending her copies of all your messages plus a few other bits of information.

We met through a seminar on "Genealogy Surprises" recently. Just an informal gathering in Pequot Lakes, MN.

I would also be interested to learn what the "Bergsjo" church records say for Per Erik Melin. Is Melin a farm name?

Again, thank you so very much.
Regards,
Nancy

Rezearching for a friend. Our subject is Per Erik Melin, b. 30 June 1827, died 27 Sept. 1868, Sweden. We see Mrs. Margreta Melin in your message and belive there is a close relationship between Margreta and Per Erik. Could have been husband and wife. Margreta had a son Jonas Persson Melin. Have you anything you can add to this?

My friends families birth places coincide with yours, as well as their UDSA location.

Any information at all will be appreciated.
Regards,
Nancy

The mother's name was Gertrude also. I don't know when they came or left Minnesota. I also don't know if she has any siblings. She is listed as Gertrude Andrews on her marriage certificate. The Anderson possibility came from some other family member. All I have on her father is C. M. Andrews. There is discrepancy in the census' on the parents birth place. I have the info. for the daughter from her marriage license in Fergus, Montana. She married Thomas G. Johnson. Their son was Robert T. Brevik (the name change is the name of his father's farm in Norway. We aren't sure why he changed it. She is in the 1910 and 1920 Fergus Census, the 1930 Klamath Falls, Oregon census where they are buried.

I was so honored to be able to get to meet her and be her host here in Minneapolis on her genealogy quest. She was such a lovely lady! We accomplished so much that weekend in 2001 when she and Lars were here. I don't recall ever hearing any news of her breakthroughs with the Polish/Krysinski folk. But if I can give you a hand with anything in that department, feel free to contact me.
Jodi

Brad,
Thank you for your message regarding the Krysinski family. Julia Longnecker was the poster of the original message. Julia passed away in June 2007, but your information may be of interest to others. Julia and I are related through her grandfather's branch (Sigfridson). Some years back I transcribed some gossip columns from the Cambridge newspaper, this is what I found for your Anton:

(from the North Star, Cambridge, Mn, Thursday December 14, 1940, page 6):
SOUTH BLOOMFORD:
“Mr. & Mrs. Emil Stamm, Jr., Sandra Ann and Johnnie, and Miss Frances Krysinski of the Twin Cities, were weekend guests at Anton Krysinski’s home.”
“Mr. and Mrs. Martin Merk called at Krysinskis on Thursday.”
“Mr. and Mrs. A. Krysinski visted at Wm. Kerner’s home on Thursday evening.”
“Mr. and Mrs. A. Krysinksi attended funeral services on Tuesday in St. Paul, for Frank Krysinski, the former’s father. Mr. Krysinsksi passed away on Saturday at his son’s home in New Brighton.”
The person who responded to your query, Kerstin Tholix, is a well-known genealogist who often replies to queries involving Swedish-Americans and Swedes who emigrated to America. She is offering to help you find more information about your grandmother. People like Kerstin who monitor this message board often have resources to help others, things like CD-ROM databases and subscriptions to services like Ancestry. I know that Kerstin often does lookups in the Ancestry census databases. But without at least a name to work with, no one can help you.

You are right to be concerned about posting personal information on a public message board and are under no obligation to do so. If your grandmother is still living then you indeed must be careful what information you post. However, if she is deceased then there is very little to fear about providing a few details such as her name, birth date or year, where she lived and the approximate time period that she lived in that location. This should provide enough to at least start the process of finding out more information about your grandmother. If nothing conclusive is found, sometimes the researcher will ask if you have any other information that might help. Of course, you don't have to provide it if you don't want to.

Many, many people have taken these small steps and in turn been helped on these boards. I don't recall ever hearing about someone being victimized after posting a query. The managers and users of these boards are always vigilant for such things. As long as you are careful and don't supply too many unnecessary personal details, I think you will be fine. But ultimately it is your choice.

Jeff
Greetings - my name is Brad. My stepfathers mom's maiden name was Krysinski. Her father was Anton and his father was named Frank. I just started doing this part of the family tree very recently. On Anton's death certificate, his mother's name was listed as "unknown",but his father was listed as Frank. Residence listed on the death certificate was Athens Twp.,Minnesota. Burial was listed as North Branch. The informant was listed as Albert of Rt. 1,North Branch. The county seat in Isanti County is in Cambridge, and you may be able to find out the death record there for 1898,and let the clerk or clerks know you are doing this for "genealogical" purposes. There will be a charge if you decide to have a copy. For an obituary, the History Center in St. Paul,Minnesota has copies of newspapers on rolls of microfilm. My email address is bandbgabby@usfamily.net .

I have found a Frances Elizabeth Krysinski, born in 1921. Not sure yet how she fits in (more than likely does though),but shares the same mom's maiden name as Albert,Vincent,Eva,John and Helen. She was born out of state, died in Minnesota and was never married from the looks of it. Brad

Thank you for posting more info. I did do a bit of looking to see about Frank's parents,if they were listed on his death certificate,no such luck. Place of birth was Poland. The listed informant was John Krysinski of Minneapolis. Frank was listed as a retired farmer as an occupation. His residence at time of death was New Brighton Twp.. For Agnes Krysinski, her death certificate listed Anton (Anthon) as her husband. Her parents were listed as Albert Kunser (could be Kunzer) and Anna Wajtinowska. Agnes resided in Isanti,Mn..
Sorry to hear about the passing of Julia. Thank you for passing on the info you have on the "Krysinski" lineage,I didn't have Frank's wife,as it was listed as "unknown" on Anton's death certificate. My stepdad's mom had passed away January 20,2008,and her married name was Eva Julia Peterson(maiden name of Krysinski). Her husband(Edmond Sr.) has also passed away, but quite some time back and both are buried at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis,Minnesota. I have not yet found out if Eva had any brothers and sisters. Eva and Edmond Sr. had six kids,Steve(the youngest) is my stepdad.

This is Julia's daughter, Kim. I was looking through her email account and found the link to this thread. I've been missing her a lot this week, so finding this was really fun. Jodi, I know she had found a contact in Poland, but I don't know what ever came of that. I am guessing that she sent you lots of what she found back when she was working on this. I think most of her family history research is on her computer at her house. I need to go through it, and figure out how to keep working on it. She loved this work so much. I know her trip to Minnesota was a highlight of the last years of her life. Finding all these pictures was amazing for all of us. My Aunt Verlene has done a lot of work, too. I'll see if she has found anything in Poland.

Rudolph Mickelson and Elsie Elvina née Persson (Peterson)

Elsa Elvina Persson (b. 1887), daughter of Adolf Persson and Anna Brita née Nord. From Samuelsfall, Los Parish, Hälsingland region, Sweden.
Elsa died in Ramsey, Minnesota in 1979.

Background: Four of the Persson siblings left for North America in turns in the early 20th century. The surname Persson seems to have been changed to Peterson after arriving in the USA. The name Elsa was changed to Elsie.

As the first of the four siblings, Elsa left Sweden, on her own. We think this was in May 1903.
19 June 1908 she got married – probably in Athens township - to Rudolph Mickelson (b. 1880), son of Jonas and Lizzie G Mickelson.
In January 1909 Elsa gave birth to a girl: Viola. A couple of years later they had a son: Bernard, who died about 1924. In 1913 they had a second daughter: Victoria.

In the 1910 census the family lives in Isanti, Minnesota. Rudolph’s mum is a widow and part of the household.
According to the 1914 Isanti county farmer's directory, the family is still in Isanti.
In the 1920 census the family lives in Minneapolis.

Further info I have on the Mickelson family: Rudolph’s parents were born in Los Parish, Hälsingland region, Sweden. There’s a WW1 draft card for Rudolph. At some point Rudolph worked as a blacksmith. He died in 1939.

Do these people sound familiar? I'd love to know more about Elsa's early years in the USA. Kind regards, Mirre
