Gene Stobb died at his home of cancer on Friday, Aug. 24, 2007. He was 67 years old.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1939 in Ogilvie to Roy and Eva (Strating) Stobb.
He graduated from Ogilvie High School in 1957 and from Dunwoody Institute of Technology in 1962.
He was united in marriage on June 24, 1961 to Joyce Sharratt at the Mora United Methodist Church.
He worked as an auto mechanic in the Twin Cities for six years. In 1969 they bought the family farm that his great grandfather homesteaded west of Pease. He farmed and raised hogs, drove truck and hauled cattle.
In 1970 he began delivering mail as a rural mail carrier in Ogilvie. He delivered mail for thirty years before retiring in 2000. He was secretary-treasurer of Kanabec, Pine, Mille Lacs County Rural Letter Carrier Association for twenty-five years.
They were foster parents for 12 years. He was very active in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He loved to hunt and fish and taught all his children the love of these sports. They loved to travel and visit their kids and grandkids.
He served for thirty years as a 4-H volunteer and had served as a board member of the Minnesota 4-H Adult Volunteer Association. He also served as a member of the Snake River Cattleman’s Association for many years. They have been members of the Rum River Square Dance Club for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, children, Corrine (Corky) (Ron) Webb of Milaca, Jeff (Tammy) of Milaca, Randy (Chris) of Missoula, Montana; Kevin (Lissa) of Isle, Mavis Stobb of Howard Lake; Vince of Milaca and Dale and Dan of Mountain Home, Idaho; grandchildren Jasen, Laura, Hailey, Tyler, Marcus, Kyle, Alyssa, Tahnisha, Austin, Skyler, Rylee, Blake, Caleb and Lydia; brothers, Gordon (Mary Jean) Stobb of Little Falls, Larry (Deb) Stobb of Elk Mound, WI and Russ (Sandy) Stobb of Tracy; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Aug. 29, 2007 at Milaca United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Woo Jae Im officiating. Music was provided by Myla Tolmie and Bob and Marilyn Anderson.
Burial was at Graceland Cemetery near Ogilvie.
Arrangements were by Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.
