Danish Emigrants to Louisburg, Minnesota

I found this website of the Danish Data Archives and did a search to see who Emigrated from Denmark to Louisburg, MN and 23 names came up as headed directly to Louisburg. Thought I'd post this on here in case it can help someone else out. Note, The ship name of "Indirekte" indicates that the passenger had a contract that was filed with the police department in Copenhagen, but the ship didn't leave directly from Copenhagen. For example, Emma Olsen's ship stopped in Liverpool, England before coming to America.

Name:
Jensen, Christian
Occupation: Arbejder
Age:
I am a decendant of the Nels Sorenson & Marie Swenson line. They were mostly in the Madison, Louisburg, Bellingham areas of Lac Qui Parle and Big Stone. I'm currently looking at the Lars Larsen, Martena Jensen couple from Perry in the 1905 census trying to determine the link to my Great Grandma Emma Oline Olsen who married Nels & Marie's son John Sorenson. I believe Emma was Lars and Martena's neice, and particularly I think Martina may have been a sister to Emma's mom, but I do not know who her mom was yet.

Thank you so much. So from this, I gather, that Tina must have been a sister to Emma's mother. I will have to try to find the immigration records to see if Tina (Jenson) Larsen came from the same part of Denmark to confirm.

Guess I'm not up to all the different organizations? You mentioned Lars Larson was a sexton for 41 years? What is that?

This has been very helpful!

Much appreciated!!!

Angie

I checked the census in that township. There is a 2 year old named Holger Larson which is a rare name. Then I searched him on the Minnesota online death index.
http://people.mnhs.org/dci/
1975-MN-030100, HOLGER M. LARSEN, born 22 Feb 1903 (makes him 2 years old on the 1905 census, died 15 Dec 1975, born in MINNESOTA, died in BIG STONE county, mothers maiden name LARSEN (JENSEN),
And the SSDI gave Holger's last known residence as Odessa, Minnesota. That is a very small town in Big Stone County. And straight north of Perry township. You have cemeteries in Louisburg, Bellingham and Odessa to look at. Try contacting the Lac qui Parle historical society. It looked like all their cemeteries were indexed and kept at the museum in Madison, Minnesota. Martina is not showing up on online death indexes. I wonder if she changed her last name.
Mike Andrews, USGenWeb volunteer for Big Stone, Swift and Chippewa counties.

I swore I would not manually look though my photos until indexed. These are so small and indexed
I checked my Louisburg. Your Larson/Larsen is not there.
The Lars Larsen you see on the 1905 index for Perry township is buried east of Bellingham, MN in St Pauls Lutheran cemetery.
Larsen, Clifford, Row J, Grave 40, 1908 to 1908
Larsen, Jens L, Row K, Grave 40, 1870 to 1954
Larsen, Lars, Row J, Grave 43, 1872 to 1953
Larsen, Lena K, Row K, Grave 41, 1878 to 1969
Larsen, Lloyd, Row F, Grave 42, 1918 to 2003
Larsen, Marvin J, VET, Row J, Grave 42, 1914 to 1972
Larsen, Tina, Row J, Grave 44, 1882 to 1946
Tina must be for Martina. Lars and Tina's markers just say Father/Mother. They share a headstone with Marvin. And Lena and Jens Larsen are on another headstone. Lars Larsen was a sexton for 41 years. St Pauls Lutheran Church in Bellingham, MN is listed in the yellow pages. Now I am off to bed.

Hello,

I am trying to find information on my Great Grandmother Emma Olsen. She came from Denmark in 1904 and it says on the record that she was coming to visit her Uncle Lars Larson (Larsen) at Box 64, Louisburg, MN. I have searched the MN 1905 Census and Lars and Martina Larson in Perry, Lac Qui Parle are the closest Lars Larson from Demark I could find. I am trying to figure out the relationship, (how he fits as her uncle) and if this is the correct Lars Larson. If anyone has any information on this family, Please help. On Emma's death certificate it lists her mothers maiden name as Jenson.

This is our family cemetery that Christoph made because when Martha died there was no cemetery in the area. It was taken care of by the grandson until
they all died. Now it is up to the next generations. The marker is a new one the
grandson put up after "someone" broke the old one.

My Great Grandma Emma Oline Olsen came over from Denmark on July 8th 1904, and on the passenger list, it shows that she is going to Box 64, Louisburg, Minnesota. Does anyone know how I might find who that address belonged to at that time? There is another line written below the address, but I cannot read it... actually in reviewing it again as I type this, I wonder if the line above it is actually correct for her, just misaligned in the rows slightly.

It looks like she may have been going to see her uncle Lars Larsen.

If anyone knows how this connection might be established, please let me know.

Thanks!

Looking for info on the father of my paternal grandmother - Emma Caroline Halsten b. 11 NOV 1876 - to Erik Halsten (b. 10 MAY 1846 likely in Sweden, d. 02 JUL 1894 in Nassau, LqP, MN) and Christina Skoog (b. 1858 in Varmland, Sweden,to USA in 1868, m. NOV 1879, 2nd m. to John Johnson). I have GGma Halsten-Johnson traced 2 generations back in Sweden but have only birth and death dates on Erik Halsten. Would appreciate any more info.
Also looking for family history on Emma's husband, John Henry Connor, b. NOV 1870 in Stanton, St.Croix, WI to Edward (O')Connor and Bridget Noon. I believe Grandpa Connor's sister, Kate, married Michael Mason and settled Nassau, MN. John Connor worked for the railroad and died in 1914. Because my dad, Hubert, was just shy of his 3rd birthday when his dad died, we have only a few family stories. Would love to learn more so I could possibly trace Edward and Bridget back to Ireland - supposedly Galway County. Thank you, Sharyn E

Her son Walter Nelson was my grandfather, who married Myrtle Radmer. My dad is Roger Nelson. My grandma Myrtle and my dad still both live in Madison, MN. What is your email address? The only real information I have on that side of the family comes from your mom. She sent me a copy of the book and that is what I go off of. I haven't really started much research on my own other than finding your mom and now you through the internet. Crazy what the internet can do these days. :)

This is Heather Nelson(-Mills) again, it's been 2 years since my last post. Dkoop1, how much information do you have on the Fundingslands? Have you ever been in contact with a Vonda Bong? She has written and published a book on the Fundingslands going back to the mid-1500s. Since Nels Osmundson Fundingsland is my great great grandfather, I am interested in what info you have on the family.
My mom is Vonda Bongs and I am working on updates for the book as I have gathered more information from the bygdeboks and church records from Hjelmeland and Suldal. We are also updating the most recent generation. If you shoot me an email off this site we can share some information. I can also send you some pictures of Fundingsland from our visits there.
Are you from Osmund or Bertha? Both have Millers as descendants. I would guess Bertha, but no room from guesses in genealogy!

I have no knowledge of the Swenson's. I just saw your query on this site. I do know that a Swenson boy about age 15 fell off a train and died. Could that have been Glenn D 1913-1928 One of the oldest Swenson stones in the Dawson cemetary is Hans 1842-1919 and Elesebeth 1847-1928. There are still lots of Swenson's around the Dawson area. You might try the vital record in Madison. Good luck.

I recently found an old envelope that S (Sven?) STRAND of Madison, Minnesota sent to Aal (Al?), Hallingdal, Norway in 1915. You can see the envelope on www.philgen.org (search on STRAND, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page). I want to determine if Al, Norway is the birthplace of Sven or his wife Gunhild and if this envelope is helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy and have started the philgen website. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

My Great-grandparents were married in 1892 in LacQuiParle county. Their marriage certificate just says they were married at "the church" and the ceremony was performed by "a minister in the Ev. Luth Church in LacQuiParle County". His name was A. O. Uth___. (I am unsure of the last letters in the name. They could be "eine" or something like that) If anyone knows which church this is I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks

I don't think Lisha was adopted but don't know for sure.

My great grandfather was William Henry Brown born 1855. Do you know anything about him or his wife Jennie born 1862. I think william had at least 3 brothers, Andrew, George and Frank but can't find out anything except they lived in Chokio, Stevens county, Minnesota. Also looking for info on Jennie (Jane Elizabeth) mom. Was told her name was Mary Hall.

Lorraine Brown

Ardell, it has been five years since your last post. I have pictures from the Borgund cemetery on Ole Sande. His tall marker must have three people listed on it. I have one of him and what must be a daughter named Jensine on the same marker. I will have to try in the late spring 2009 for his wife's photo during the final audit on my transcription. It looks like his daughter Jensine married a Markuson/Markusen. The cemetery book has Gunhild for Ole Sande's wife.

According to the 1910 Federal Census of Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota. Swen Strand was born in Norway about 1852 and immigrated in 1873. He is a naturalized citizen. Gunhild however is a native born citizen. She was born in Minnesota about 1852, as well.

As for where Swen is born in Norway, I do not know. You can try the Norwegian Digital Archives and find him in the Al Parish Registers. His name would probably be spelled as Svend as that is the common Norwegian spelling of that time.
