Rev. H. Ostgulen, Former Warren Pastor, Is Dead
Rev. Hans Ostgulen, a prominent pastor in the Norwegian Lutheran Free church, died at a Minneapolis hospital on March 25th, after a lingering illness.
Rev. Ostgulen was born in Norway in 1855 and came to America in 1884, entering Augsburg Seminary at Minneapolis the following year as a theological student. After his graduation in 1889, he was called to serve eleven congrgations in Marshall and Kittson counties, with headquarters at Warren. He resided in this city until 1906 when he moved to Cumberland, Wis., where he lived until 1912 when he came to Roseau, Minn., located on a farm three miles from town and devoted most of his time to active church work. His religious work among the pioneer settlers of the valley and the many hardships he suffered in serving his widely scattered congregations, will long be remembered by the parishioners.
Rev. Ostgulen went to Rochester, three months ago to seek medical aid and then to Minneapolis where, following an operation he contracted pneumonia and passed away. His remains were brought to Roseau for burial. He is survived by a widow and three children.
