Not sure who is related but check at Wilmont History Room (in Wilmont city hall) and there may be information if you get in this area. Check also www.wilmontshopper.com - there is a historical column every other week from someone who has a lot of the local history.

A very good probability is that William was the son of Jane’s brother Thomas, who’s wife seems to have died in 1917, and Thomas then moving to ND and remarried, scattering their children among other relatives

http://www.mncounty.com/Modules/Certificates/Marriage/Defaul...
MARRIAGE
POLK 11/19/1905	GILFOY, THOMAS & RICARD, AURORA

Death of Thomas’s Wife
Ora M.
I am doing Theis genealogy mainly. My dad said we were related to the LeBruns, but I do not have a real connection. I do know my Godmother was Minnie Hollerich , Her maiden name was LeBrun, a sister to Pete LeBrun, Are you sure of the 1900 birth date for Pete unless there was two Petes, but before that as he was a friend to Conrad if not a relative. My dad Michael Theis was born 1910 at Lismore.

What is your line as a descendant of George S. Barnes? I would love to hear from you 424johnson@gmail.com and share any info I have.

These are my notes on Joseph Gott Barnes
Joseph shows up in the 1820 census in Dutchess County, NY. He then shows up in the 1820 & 1822 census in Salisbury, Litchfield County, CT census. In the 1830 census he is in Pittsford, Rutland Co., VT. His son Alfred W. Barnes was born on 1-29-1824 in Vermont.
1850 US Federal Census in Pittsford, Rutland County census showed the following:
Joseph Barnes - 65 yrs. old - male - Laborer - Birth Place - CT.
Sally Barnes - 60 yrs. old - female - Birth Place - NY
Francis Barnes - 13 yrs. old - male - Birth Place - VT
Is Sarah really Sally and Frank short for Francis? Claudine 2002

1812 War Records of Joseph G. Barnes "The records of this office show that Joseph G. Barns or Barnes, private, 37th. U.S. Infantry, under Capt. Elizur Warner enlisted May 12, 1813 for one year, was reported Dec. 31st. absent sick. also shown on sick furlough at Dover. The muster roll of Feb. 28, 1814 shows Joseph Elliott substituted for Joseph G. Barnes present, and on the muster roll of June 30, 1814, Joseph Elliott was reported substituted discharged, time of enlistment having expired. Joseph G. Barnes was born at Norfolk, Conn. and was 25 years of age at enlistment. The records of this office afford no further information relative to his family nor neither did the Pension office as he did not claim a pension"

from ancestry.com
History of Norfolk, Litchfield County, Connecticut, 1744-1900
The War of 1812
This war took but slight hold upon the hearts and minds of the people here, although it appears that some were drafted from this, as from the other towns, and were in the service for a time. The record of the Soldiers in the war of 1812 shows that Captain Sereno Pettibone, son of Colonel Giles Pettibone, was in the service for some months at New London in 1813, as "Commander," and doubtless there were a number of Norfolk men in the service at the same time. Some of the men under Mr. Pettibone had Norfolk names, and may have been residents of this time, but to the writer it is not certainly proven, the names of the towns to which they belonged not being given. Joseph G. Barnes enlisted from Norfolk in the regular army at that time.

WAR OF 1812, FRANKLIN COUNTY, NEW YORK This is a list of men who fought in the war someplace else, then moved into Franklin County after the war.
Barnes, Charles
Barnes, John
Barnes, Joseph
(NY GenWeb Archives)

Additonal information for you from Microfilm M233, Roll 1 "Registration of Enlistment in US Army, 1798-1914; 1798-May 17, 1815, A-BL". This list is for regular army, not state militia.
p. 242 of film for Joseph G. Barnes: In addition to what you had, he was listed as 5'10", light eyes, dark hair, light complexion.
Although I did not look at all Barnes entries, these jumped out at me as being of interest to you in the same unit:

p. 15 of film--Barns/Barnes, Adino S., drummer, 5'10" light eyes, brown hair, light complexion, age 23, b. at Canaan, CT, enlisted May 13, 1813 for one year (this is one day after Jos. enlisted); discharged 30 June 1814, term expired

p. 242--Barnes, Isaac, (pvt, same unit) 5', 5 1/2"; dark eyes, dark hair, ruddy complexion; age 37 or 39, shoemaker; b. Middletown, CT, enlisted Oct 20, 1813, discharged New London, May 10, 1815. Has pension file (War 1812)

p. 240-- Barnes, Joseph C. Barco, corporal (same unit) 5'9" black eyes, black hair, dark complexion, age 23, b. New Millford, CT, enlisted May 18, 1813 for one yr.

In regard to state militia, a Joseph Barnes (Jos. C or Jos. G. not clear to me) also served with Jos. ELLIOTT in 27th Regt. (Bellinger's) NY Militia, 1812. The service records did not reveal any other data regarding where enlisted or personal data.
(Sarah From: ___ Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002
Researching Wm.
Could you be referring to Dr. Charles P. Dolan, who came to the area in 1904 and took over Ed Dolan's practice when he died? I am Ed's great granddaughter. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Mary
I have the news article from Worthington Newspaper Jan 8, 1904. He died Jan 2, 1904. He married Edith Watson from Cottage Grove, MN in February ?, 1901. I am doing research on the medical history of Worthington, MN. I am trying to find out if there is any connection between Edith Watson, and Dr FG Watson who came to Worthington in 1910. I would be interested in your photo and any information you have.

DEATH: "We mentioned in last week's ADVANCE the fact that Phineas Gage, of Seward, had been seriously burned by a prairie fire on Wednesday, the 14th. -- Mr. Gage died on Thursday and was buried on Saturday. On Friday we called at the farm of Weston Gage, son of the unfortunate man, and from him learned the particulars of the old gentleman's death.

"It seems that a prairie fire came in from the west, and while Mr. Gage, jr., was back firing about the base of a hill to the north of the house, the old gentleman crossed the hill to see about the fire on the other side. While there, it seems, some one set a fire in the rear of Mr. Gage which swept down upon him with the speed of the wind. He was forty some rods from a strip of breaking [?] but old and lame he was was unable to reach it before the fire caught him. Seeing that flight was useless, he tore up the grass and the earth and endeavored to save himself but the fire pushed upon him and fired his clothing. He had on a heavy overcoat which he removed probably in an effort to smother the flames. All the details of the horrible struggle are not known, but his clothing was all burned off and the skin over the whole body was scorched. His finger nails were found on the prairie where he had clawed up the ground probably using the soil in his efforts to extinguish the fire. In this condition he crept to the top of the hill and shouted for help. His son ran to him and carried to the house. He lived about 24 hours after being burned.

“Mr. Gage was an old gentleman, about 73 years of age. This is the first casualty of the kind which has occured in the county.”

“Worthington Advance” - 22 Apr 1880
Worthington, Nobles, MN
I appreciate it very much - even though my message is "late"!!

I haven't been able to find that August J Strand died/was buried in Ottertail county. I found that Anna was buried there in 1921 - but when did he die?

I found one August J that died in California Alameda in 1943, but maybe that isn't "my" August? I would be very happy if someone could help me out!

Best regards from Marie, Sweden

I maybe have found the widow and son in the 1905 census. You would need to do more research:

1905 MN Nobles County, Worthington

DOLAN, Edith W., female, age 31, white, born Minn, father born Scotland, mother born New York. Has lived in the state 30 years and 8 months. Has lived in enumeration district 4 years and 4 months. Employed as a teacher.

DOLAN, Edward W., male, age 3, white, born Minn, father born Minn, mother born Minn. Has lived in the enumeration district 3 years and 3 months.

In 1920 Edith and Edward Dolan are still living in Worthington, Minnesota. She has remarried a Robert Morland. You can find a long biography about him in a book on Google Books, but it does not list his wife's maiden name.

This Edward is probably the person included in an online tree, listed as Edward Watson Dolan, born 23 Feb 1902 in Minnesota, died 4 Feb 1962 in Worthington. No parents listed.

Beth
not related
sorry... hit "enter" by mistake:

DRINKS CARBOLIC ACID BY MISTAKE
Worthington, Minn., Jan. 3. --

Dr. Edward Dolan, a prominent young physician, is dead from a dose of carbolic acid, taken by mistake. Dr. Dolan had received a sick call from a patient residing in the country and after entering his carriage himself, felt unwell. He opened his medicine case and in the darkness, took from it a vial containtaining the poison. He immediately discovered his mistake, but died before he could reach assistance.
---------------------

I also find notes of his death in online book excerpts. One states he left a wife and a young son:

http://books.google.com/books?id=fos-AAAAYAAJ&pg=PA718&a...

It says he was 37 years old and had practiced medicine at Worthington for 10 or 12 years. Here he is in 1895:

1895 MN Nobles County, Worthington
E.
