Were the sisters living in Ada at the time of the first marriage to Andrew EMERSON? You posted in another query that the marriage took place in next-door Polk County. Perhaps the girls were drawn to Polk County for some reason?

The volunteer-run Polk County, MN, website includes the name STENSRUD in a history book available for a lookup. The name EMERSON is included in many pages
in that book. Here is the link to the index and how to request a lookup:

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mnpolk/1883-1993_cent_foss...

Here is the link to other resources available on that site:

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mnpolk/lookups.htm

Was there anything in particular going on in Ada during the 1870s & 1880s that would bring 2 young Norwegian girls (ages 13 & approx. 18 years) all the way from Dane County, WI to Ada by themselves? Their father and siblings (mother was dead) stayed behind in WI.

I know it's possible that they came to live with relatives---and I'm trying to figure out if that's the case. I just wondered if there was anything in particular going on in Ada at the time that might've brought them there.

My great grandfather's brother, Andrew Emerson, married Julia (Gunhild) Stensrud (possible Steensrud) in Polk County, MN, in September, 1880. She died in September, 1886.

Andrew then married Julia's sister, Theoline, on Dec. 3, 1887, in Norman County, MN. They subsequently moved out west to Montana and then Bellingham, WA.

I'd like to find out more information on these Stensrud/Steensrud girls. Can anyone help?

minnesota did not mandate records of death until the early 1900's. are you wanting death certificatres if i can find them at the historical society? i can also reference some of the local papers in the area. i know that there was the forum in fargo, nd and i think htat there was a paper in ada maybe twin valley i know that crookston may have had one any other to reference??
aimee peltier
punkin1-2@msn.com

i have a trip to the history center planned forlater this week. i would be willing to look and see what i can find. minnesota mandated that marriages need to be recorded in 1958, while births and deaths were required to be reported much earlier. have you tried www.familysearch.org

that would be a good bet.
aimee peltier
punkin1-2@msn.com

While the person who posted this' heart was in the right place, there are so many errors that I post the entire obituary corrected as follows:

Mrs. Nora Evelyn Stokes, wife of W.D. Stokes of Plummer, died in this city Friday, death being caused by a tumor of the stomach.

Mrs. Stokes was born in Norman county 34 years ago, Dec. 2 and lived there until 13 years ago, when she was married. She then resided in Leonard until a year ago when Mr. and Mrs. Stokes came to Plummer. In October they began operating a hotel in Plummer.

Three weeks ago she became ill and received medical attention in this city for some time. To mourn her passing she leaves her husband, and a daughter Ivy; a twin sister, Mrs. W.R. Kuder of Ada, who was the only relative with her at the time of death; three other sisters: Miss Ella Stensgaard of Ada, Mrs. Fred Jordan of Longville, Mrs. F. Dingy [could possibly be Dingey] of Brooks, Sask.; and five brothers, A.J. Stensgaard of Craik, Sask, J.M. and C.L. Stensgaard of Ada, Rev. O.M. Stensgaard of Fisher and A.B. Stensgaard of McIntosh.

The funeral services were held at Ada yesterday. The Rev. Dordahl of the Lutheran Church officiated and interment made there.

Anna

Ps - W.D. Stokes = William Darius Stokes;
W.R. Kuder = William Russell Kuder;
Mrs. Fred Jordan = Louise Matilda Stensgaard;
A.J. Stensgaard = Alfred Julius Stensgaard;
J.M. Stensgaard = Johan Martin "John" Stensgaard;
C.L. Stensgaard = Carl L. Stensgaard;
O.M. Stensgaard = Oscar Martineous Stensgaard;
A.B.

I was wondering if there was someone who could point me to where I could find an obit for a distant relatives husband. I am hoping this is the right person, as I am going off of poorly kept state records.

According to the SSI this is what it lists.

Alfred Svenddal who died in Aug 1979 in Halstad. I am hoping an obituary will give me some information to find out if this is the right person.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Re: Voelz, Zahn, Braunschweig

I do not have sources for this family, but the information I do have is as follows:

Widow Frederica Voelz (nee Zahn) b. 1867 in Germany, d. 1920 in Hocking, OH, m. on 2 Jun 1894 in Norman, MN: Gottlieb Braunschweig b. 17 Aug 1849 in Germany, d 18 Jun 1929 in Green, Hocking, OH. Frederica had two sons from a previous marriage to Fredrich Voelz: William and Henry. Note: The boys may have taken the name Braunschweig. Very shortly after the marriage of Frederica and Gottlieb, a son Emil Albert Braunschweig was b. 30 Aug 1894 in Pleasant View Township, Norman, MN. The 1895 census lists Gotlieb, Reke, William, Henry and Emil living in Ada, Norman, Minnesota. They lived next to Gotlieb's brother Carl Braunschweig. Another son Walter August Braunschweig was b. 7 Jan 1899. I do not have a place of birth for Walter. At some point the family moved to Hocking (County), Ohio. There is a headstone for Gottlieb and Frederica "Ricke" Braunschweig in Scott's Creek Cemetery, Hocking County, Ohio. Also buried in this cemetery are Lucy Braunschweig and Herman Braunschweig; presumably the youngest children of the couple. I hope this helps ...

I'm looking for verification for a Myrtle Isabelle Plumley who was born 15 April 1886 in Norman County to Eugene and Jeannette Plumley. Myrtle was also called Belle so it might be under that. Hopefully her mother's maiden name will be given too. That would be a plus!! Thanks so ever much.
Ginger Walls
Red Wing, MN
