Peter Richard Clepper, 79, of Pine City, died on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 at Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City.

The son of Royal and Lulu (Campbell) Clepper, he was born on April 3, 1926 in Little Falls. Peter and his five brothers lived on a farm until their father die, at which time his mother moved the family to St. Paul.

On Dec. 12, 1945, Peter enlisted in the United States Army, following the example of his older brother, Kenneth, who had earlier enlisted in the Navy. During WWII, much of Peter’s service time was spent in Germany. He received his honorable discharge from the Army on Dec. 2, 1946.

Shortly after being discharged, he met LaDonna Walbridge, and they were married on Feb. 9, 1948. Seven children were born into their family. Phyllis Marie who died at birth, Jeanette Carol, who also died at a very young age, Gary, Ricky, who died at age 41, Randy, Jerome and Tammy.

As a young man, Peter was employed for several years at Minnesota Transfer Railroad as a car inspector. Later, he worked at James Steele Construction, and after many years of service retired from that company due to a disability.

In 1977 he and LaDonna moved to the Pine City area and made their home near Pokegama Lake.

Peter enjoyed woodworking and making things with his hands, fishing, western music and playing with his dogs, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family.

Suffering his first stroke in 1990, Peter was able to continue living at home, due to LaDonna’s expert care, until August 2001. At that time, he became a resident of Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City.

LaDonna visited him daily, talked to him often on the phone, and was at his side when he died.

Peter is survived by his wife, LaDonna, daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Perry White of Pine City; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Louise Clepper of Circle Pines; Randy and Kerrie Clepper of Blaine; Jerome (Mary Armstrong) Clepper of Pine City; seven grandchildren, five great granddaughters, brothers and sisters—in-law, Ken Clepper of Pine City; Lawrence (Bubby) and Pat Clepper, Carl Clepper, all of St. Paul; Donald Clepper of Wisconsin; and Raymond and Shirley Clepper of Chisago City; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Royal and Lulu Clepper his daughters, Phyllis and Jeanette, his son, Ricky; and sister-in-law, Nora Clepper.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City; Pastor Lyn Sahr officiated.

Honorary casket bearers included Eric Clepper, Josh Clepper, Brian Clepper, Perry White; Troy Billbrey and the Heath-Perkins American Legion Post 51.

Urn burial will take place in the spring at the Birchwood Cemetery of Pine City.
