Norway has had population census similar to our own, but not as often. In 1865 (enumeration date of 12/31/1865) there was a census that is available on the Norwegian Digital Archives:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&a...
In it, I find in the Voss Parish of Hordaland Fylke (similar to our counties but different), Anders Gullaks* Styve, age 14. During this period of time, persons were named under the old naming system "Patronymics." They had a given name, then the name of their father with either a "Sen" or "Dtr (daughter)" or Datter. Then they had their address as a "surname." So this person was Anders Gullaksen Styve. If a man moved to another farm, his name would reflect the new address. A woman kept her name the rest of her life, but only changed the address name. She did not take the name of the husband. This changed in early 1900's.
You can see Anders was 14, the age he would become in 1866. His father was Gullak Knuts*/Knutsen (son of Knut), his mother was Begga Andersd*, daughter of Anders. Gullak's mother, age 76 is shown as well as sibings to Anders (son's and datters of Gullak) and also a servant/maid.

Here is Anders birth record, born 28 March 1852, baptised on 8 April, #89:

The first link will take you to page 48 of the birth book, the second is a link just to this page.
You will see his parents names: Gullak Kunts Styne and Begge Andersdtr. The rest of the line will show his sponsors name. You can enlarge the image size if you desire on both.

Here is the family in 1865 of Kristbjør on the Mæstad gard (farm), she will be 5 in 1866. Her father was Ole Magnessøn, mother Hildebjør Knutsd, and her siblings.

They are also in the Voss Parish of Hordaland Fylke.

Anders emigrated Norway on Jan 17, 1880:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbas...
It appears Anders departed on the SS Domino, which sailed from Trondheim to Christiansund to Bergen, then to Hull, England:
http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_route.asp?ro=F01
This was common, it was called Transmigration, where a person would sail to England to connect with a transatlantic voyage. Most often persons enroute to Minnesota/Middle America would travel from England to Quebec and then move south into the US. This website also provides potential Connecting ships, however, I have found some passengers not on these connections:

There is a website for Canadian arrivals also.
Kristi on April 13, 1881:

The 1885 Census of Sundahl Co, MN (transcription not images)
Andres Styve, age 32, born in Norway
Kristbjorg, age 23
Gilly Anderson, age 2
Ole Anderson, age 1
Gullick K Styne, age 18.
--This gives the "possibility" that Gilly and Ole were either step children of Anders or adopted.

The Canadian Census records will be of no value as they were recorded in 1852(Quebec and Ontario), 1851(New Brunswick), 1901, 1906 and 1911.

Hilda Styve married Theodore C. Sollie on October 19th, 1924:

You can try Findagrave.com to look for the others.

I checked the Bureau of Land Managements database of land patents issued under the Homestead Act, and other Congressional Land Acts; however, there was no information identifiable to surname Styne obtaining land in this manner in MN; where was a Levi Styne in Iowa in 1854.

There are several posted family trees having information on this family. The most information shown on:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/7150629/person/-1153026690?ss...=
BUT, I daily find errors in posted family trees so verify any information you find, use these as a tool, but not an answer. If you are not an Ancestry member, you can access them at your library's computers IF they have the Ancestry Library version on their system.
This one has a photo of Bertha:

I found one public tree mentioning a head injury to Anders in 1864. A private tree also identified it. I sent a message to the owner "nstyvehagen" to read this thread and help if possible. The public tree identifies the injury occuring in 1864 which led in later years to mental deterioration.
