My genealogical brick wall is Frederick Shaffer.
I first find him in the 1870 census in Linden Wisconsin listed as from Bohemia. On the 1905 and 1910 census it indicates he is from Germany. His immigration year is stated as 1854.
His obituary has "Frederick Shaffer, deceased, for a prominent and active business man of the Village of Linden, was born in Bohemia, August 2, 1839 where he lived with his parents until fifteen years of age. In 1854 he came to the United States locating at Mineral Point, being employed at the shoe trade until 1860. He then moved to Linden and started in business for himself."
The census records indicated he was naturalized, but we can't located his letter of intentions. If anyone can help shed light on how to research back further on Frederick, it would be very much appreciated.
