SCHMIDT/SCHOEN - We're trying to trace Frederick Christlieb Schmidt (1835-1893) from Giesmannsdorf, Saxony, Germany (now part of Poland). Married Maria Rosina Schoen (abt. 1844-1929) from Ullersdorf, Bohemia. His father's name was Johann Gottfied Schmidt. They were maried in Oberullersdorf and had seven children. Moved to USA in 1889(?)and settled in New Hartford and Harftord, Conn. This area of Saxony was located at the point where Germany, Poland and Bohemia (The Czech Republic) borders meet. Today the whole are is an open pit coal mine belonging to Poland with very few of the former towns in the area existing today. I believe Oberullersdorf (now Kopaczow, Poland) and the church in which they were married, and Ullersdorf (now Oldrichov, Czech Republic), still exist. Any info regarding the SCHMIDT/SCHOEN families or the area, please e-mail to: NESchmidt@aol.com Thanks!
