I am researching for information about my great-great grandfather) my born around 1850 in Amite (via 1910, 1920,1930 Census). He died at least at 105 years old.

I'm trying to find information for his wife also. I was told his second wife was Lular(1930 census), but his first wife was called Fenny. I found him married to a woman named Cena (1910 census, which isn't Fenny, but possible.

His children (1910 census) are listed at Sallie, John, Mary, Maggie(my great-grandmother), Rhoda, Lee, Beaver and Philio.

The greatest challenge is the different spellings of his last name. I was told it was Achee, but upon searching I have come across Aitch(1920, 1930) and Aych (1910).

Has anyone heard of the Achee family, regardless of spelling in Amite County?

Stephen, the person with whom I have previously corresponded who has the most information on Rev. Lemuel Burkett Thompson is Charles J. Peterson of Columbia, MO (at least as late as early 2005). Please email me at kathysschultz@earthlink.net and I will send you his contact information.

You may also be interested to learn that I have recently been able to find out where his father Richard Thompson and his family lived in Barnwell District, SC after their move from Halifax Co., NC in the mid-1790's. They were on Four Mile Branch of the Savannah River. Their property is now included in the federal property of the Savannah River Plant.

Kathryn Schultz
kathysschultz@earthlink.net

My name is Stephen A. Thompson. I believe I am a decendent of Burkett. What I can tell you is that my Buekett
married a Lydia mixon in Montgomery AL in 1822 and after her death he married Elizabeth Mixon. Both Mixon women were from South carolina (Darlington?) Burkett and Elizebeth died in 1852 in Autauga Co. They had somewhere around 13 children. Burkett was born in 1803. Burkett and Ayres seemed to be a popular name at thia time.

Anna, though the photos don't look like any of our Amite Co. Thompsons I have seen photos of, I am interested in whether you know how your Silas Hugh Thompson was related to other Amite Co. Thompsons. I am a descendant of Rev. Silas Hale Thompson of Amite Co., son of Rowland Thompson and grandson of John Thompson of Halifax Co., NC; Barnwell Co., SC; and Amite Co. This Thompson family also has a connection to Columbia, Caldwell Parish, LA, since most of the family of Rowland's wife, Nancy Meredith, moved there from Amite Co. There were marriages of these Merediths to Fausts, but no Faulks that I know of. If you can see any connection to your Thompsons, I will be very interested in hearing from you.

Kathryn Schultz
kathysschultz@earthlink.net

I am an ancestor of Alfred White through his son James C.(brother of David Nelson). I believe that "Mother" Mary White was actually Alfred's mother. I have a copy of Alfred's probate document which lists his heirs, but would love to have a copy of his will and personal property if you would be willing to share it. Since your post was from 2001, have you since been able to add additional info to your research? I have recently found a book that states that Elizabeth White Kennon (Mary's daughter mentioned in her will) was born in North Carolina 16 Mar 1783 and was the daughter of "John" and Mary ? White. Where in North Carolina were John and Mary from? My supposition is that John died, and Mary and her young adult children left NC and arrived in Amite County after 1805 and before 1810. Alfred apparently stayed in SC for a while where James C., David N. and other children were born, then followed the rest of the family to Amite County arriving after 1810 and before 1816. I would like to connect with other researchers who are working on this branch of the White Family from Amite Co., Mississippi.

There may be more but I don't have your Emma.

I don't know how the Easley family fits is, but the Page family was from Copiah County, MS.

If you've sorted out your question, please let me know as I am curious now.

thx,
John Charles Holden
holdenjc@yahoo.com

The info in your posts is not quite right. I hope I can make myself clear.

1. You use the name Elizabeth Canzada HOLDEN. I know of
no Canzada in my line..it is Cassandra.
2. She did married a John Leonard Page. Her brother
Charles Jackson Holden married his sister Mahala F
Page. CJ is my great-grandfather by his 2nd wife.
3. These two Holdens were the only children of Hugh Holden
and Ruth Mixon. This info has been passed down by
family members. We have the family Bible that Hugh
bought about the time he married and it is recorded
that way...no other children for Hugh & Ruth.
4. Hugh was the 2nd son of Thomas Holden JR who did die in
1849 in Natchitoches, LA.
5. Mary Helen Holden would have been Elizabeth Cassandra's
aunt, not her sister.
6. Thomas Holden SR would have been Elizabeth Cassandra's
great-grandfather.

I have seen Hugh placed as a son of Thomas SR on a couple of websites, but this is not correct.

John Charles Holden
holdenjc@yahoo.com

I know of no children with Aquila Greer.

The last I find her is in 1860 living with her daughter Nancy who is married to John Lane Crawford.

BTW, Morgan's line is very interesting since it ties into the Morgan line and Daniel Boone.

Carolyn, I am sorry that I don't have any information for you on your Richard A. Neeley and Mary Ann Moore. I am assuming that you don't know where Richard A. Neeley was born or anything about his parents.
This may not help you, but it is interesting to me that the father of our Abigail Neeley, wife of Thomas Meredith, Sr., was also named Richard Neeley. They lived in Fairfield Co., SC. Abigail's husband was killed by Indians near present-day Montgomery, AL as they migrated to Amite Co. in 1812.
Richard Neely, Sr. had sons Victor, John, Richard, Jr., Clement and Alexander. Unfortunately, I don't have much information on them or their descendants.
John Neeley died in Benton Co., AL, and his son John W. Neeley died in Rockwell Co., TX in 1902, wife Mariah E. Brooks.
Richard Neeley, Jr. moved to Bedford Co., TN in 1807, where he married Sarah Parker. Their oldest son, Elijah Neeley, married Amelia Caldwell, moved first to Washington Co., AR and later to Springtown, Parker Co., TX.
Clement Neeley moved with his brother Richard to Bedford Co., TN in 1807, married Susannah Harrington, and moved to Clay Co., MO c1816-1817.
I assume without other information that Victor and Alexander stayed in Fairfield Co., SC, though that may not be correct.
I haven't seen that any others of the Neeleys migrated with the Merediths to Amite Co. in 1812 except for Richard Neeley, Sr.'s daughter Ann Neeley and her husband John Brent, who settled in Pike Co., MS, but others might have come there that I don't yet know about.
If anything here looks like a connection, please contact me at
kathysschultz@earthlink.net

Kathryn Schultz

Here is a copy of a message I recieved today.

"Have been somewhat following the Neeley query thread on the rootsweb forum for Amite County MS. I personally cannot access rootsweb, but I have a good deal of information on the Neeley family, by virtue of my descendancy in the Longmire line. You (thankfully) are the only person posting in this thread with a given email address, so take the liberty of indicating to you that I can contribute to those of you wanting information.

Roger Elkins Barnes"

Roger's email address is rbarnes002@san.rr.com

I have not been able to connect Mary Ann Moore to my family, but I have her parents listed as Ezekial Moore(born about 1876) and Mary Longmire(born 1790 in Amite CO, MS and died in 1832). They were married on Nov. 2, 1815 in Amite CO, MS.

Nancy
Indego3@aol.com

I may have the marriage date wrong. I will research Amite County more. My Thomas Jefferson Neeley was born 12 Oct 1839 in Amite County according to his 3 Feb 1918 death cert. He died in Stockdale, Texas. Shows father as Richard A. Neeley and mother as Mary A. Moore. Trying to match up the names in Amite to this death cert.
I am interested in the John Brent connection to the Neeleys. My Thomas Jefferson Neeley had a daughter that he named Brent Eugina Neeley.
Mary A. Moore is the first Moore that I have come across in my family.
I have one of their sons as Thomas Jefferson Neeley. I have death cert for Thomas Jefferson Neeley born Oct 12 1839 in Amite (according to cert) , died 1918 in Texas.
Would be glad to trade information on the family I have from this time forward. Any help appreciated.
Thanks Carolyn

Deb:

I am from his first marriage. Kathleen Patt is my mother. She lives in Southington and was quite close to your dad. My understanding is that your dad moved up here and lived with Willie Patt and my grandmother, Ruth Klatt, in Plainville. Donald stayed here, and Willie moved back to MS after he got divorced. Unfortunately, because my grandmother was very angry at Willie (for no good reason) my mother did not get to spend much time with him (also, he lived in MS). I loved him dearly, but the truth is, I dod not know much about his family. I know he ran away at 13 and lived with a wealthy woman in Natchez, whom I met as a child, but other than taht I do not know very much. Would love to know whatever you know. All my family history dead-ends with him. If anybody can offer ANYthing about him, it will be appreciated. He was born around 1785, don't know where. Died in 1833, place of burial unknown. he was married to a Mary Tate, and had four children. He owned land in Louisiana, served briefly in the War of 1812. His sons that I can trace were in Amite Co., MS. One, William 'Buck' Lindsey, is buried in Lindsey cemetery, an abandoned plot around Gillsburg. HIS son, also William, married Susan Zeigler and are buried in Zeigler cemetery in MS. If you can connect to any of these people, I would appreciate contact and any info you have, I have plenty to share myself, it just all dead-ends at Isaac.

I am researching the White Family of Amite Co., MS, and I am an ancestor of James C. White and Mary Milly Terrell. Alfred was his father (mother unknown), and there has always been some thought that "Mother" Mary White was his wife. I have a copy of her will, and even though there was 'a James' mentioned, I always felt that James C. was too young to be that James who was an executor. Seeing the will of Alfred finally solves that issue for me, and I am now researching all the children in an effort to further document this. I have recently found an internet link that says Elizabeth White Kennon (Mother Mary White's daughter) was born in North Carolina, and she was the daughter of "John" and Mary White. Has anyone got further information on this? I would like to share information with other researchers who are working on this branch of the White Family, Amite Co., MS.

Two ARNOLD girls were living with my MARSALIS family in Amite Co., MS on the 1850 Census.

Family of Thomas MARSALIS page 87B family 540

Thomas, Sarah A., William B., P. H., Genoa, Mary, *Sarah, Martha MARSALIS and then Hester G. ARNOLD age 7 and Elizabeth ARNOLD age 8 both born Amite Co.

Do you know who the parents of these ARNOLD girls were?

I believe that P.H. (Peter) MARSALIS married Hester G. ARNOLD in Louisiana. The family moved to Franklin Parish in 1852. A Hester J. MARSALIS married Alonzo D. MOORE 23 Dec. 1862, Hester must of died because Alonzo MOORE married again later from the Franklin Parish Marriage Index. I do not know what happened to Elizabeth ARNOLD.

Do you know who the parents of Mary Ann Moore were? I will look through my Moore notebook and see if there are Neeleys.

Kay

Michael,

Yes, I am Donald Patt's daughter. I am assuming you are from the second marriage and also my cousin. I have so many questions. My father did not know much of his past including if the birthdate he was told was really his. I also have been to Talbert Cemetery as it was my fathers wish to put a marker on our grandfathers grave but we could not find exactly where he is buried. I called Brown Funeral Home and they were of no help. Tell me about yourself... My personal email is dmargiotta@yahoo.com also look on www.findagrave.com. I have pictures of my father and Uncle Harry and my cousin Randy who have passed and are in Oakhill Cemetery Southington, CT

Hope to hear from you,

Debby (Patt) Margiotta

Well, at this moment I do not know, I haven't researched all of Lucinda's Brothers and Sisters in Amite Cty, yet..
But, this would be one of three options. It is truly a blended family.
one, it could be that Sarah A. was an Arnold and the Arnold children are hers by a prior marriage, the younger children their children.
Two, She is an Arnold and the children are from her deceased sibling and wife.
Three, they accepted guardianship of the children as orphans. This is the time period, where not very much research has been done on these Arnolds. And also, Many young men left Miss during the 40's for Texas and never came back. This would be around 1842 or 1843. I will keep this in my files and something will pop up, maybe not today .. but it will, I promise..
