Probate Judge George Thomas Lightfoot, born circa 1838, Nashville, Tennessee, family of lawyer Phillip Lightfoot.
Lawyer, planter, CSA, Mason. Married Julia Ann Bonsall January, 1860, she being only 16, in Hinds Co, Miss., w/brother, Dr. Bonsall consenting and witness at wedding. Julia's parents deceased, her father, Mr. Bonsall, having been lst elected County Commissioner when Hinds Co., Miss was formed. Children: (1) Ann Bonsall Lightfoot, born and died on Cox-Lightfoot cousin's plantation in Hinds Co, circa 1862, during Civil War. (2) Lida Effie Lightfoot (Gills) my grandmother, who married, taught, and died in Troy, Ala. Lida Lightfoot's mother, Julia Bonsall Lightfoot (Mrs. G. T. Lightfoot)died birthding her. (3) George Thomas Lightfoot, Jr., by second wife, widow Minerva Coffee Lobdell. George Thomas Lightfoot enlisted 1861 Bolivar Troop, Company H, First Mississippi Calvary. His lst cousin, Captain Gaddis (Gadi) Herren was co. commander. Fought mainly as part of Army of West Tennessee in Miss/Tenn/Ga/Ala/Ark/GA/SC. George T. Lightfoot elected Probate Judge, Bolivar Co., circa 1860, served until mid 1866. After Civil War Judge Lightfoot was law partners with former circuit judge Trimbell, in firm of Lightfoot & Trimbell, Beulah, Miss.
Lightfoot before and after Civil War a very successful farmer, lawyer, and businessman. Died of shot in back of his head from bushwhacking...brother of a man Lightfoot a special sitting criminal judge just sentenced to hang for murder, circa 1893. Simplied family line is: George Thomas Lightfoot, my Gt. Grandfather; Lida Lightfoot (Gillis) my Grandmother; Mildred Gillis (Singleton) my mother; to me, George Lightfoot Singleton,born Sept. 4, 1939, Montgomery, AL. Married to Alice Newell Brooks of Yardley, Penna. in Troy, ALA, April 28, 1979, in Troy, Ala. Presbyterian Church. We have three daughters, all born Birmingham, AL, Sara Brooks Singleton, b. Oct. 16, 1980; twins, Susanna Gillis and Rebecca Powell Singleton, b. July 25, 1983. I am a retired VA hospital administrative and budget officer (diplomate, American College of Healthcare Executives); retired full Colonel, Air Force Reserve (5 yrs active duty + 26 yrs in reserve); and am currently Associate Broker, Tom Murphy Realty, Hoover, AL.
