In 1873, my GG grandmother, Lydia Lenoir (African-American) purchased 150 acres of timber land from a Jane E. Wofford of Chickasaw County. The property is now listed in Clay County. I have a copy of the deed, but I can find no reference of a Jane E. Wofford anywhere in my research. I'm hoping to find more information about how Lydia was able to purchase this property.
