Opal Lee Yates of Akron, Ohio passed away December 15, 2011.
She was born in Mississippi on October 5, 1937 to Link and Cora Jones.
Opal lived life as a Christian, being baptized at the Brick Academy M. B. Church in Grenada, MS.
Opal was preceded in death by parents, Link and Cora Jones; sons, Michael and Leonard Yates; brothers, Johnny and Joe Willy (JoBo) Jones; and sisters, Cora Jones and Ophelia (Boonie) Harvey.
She is survived by sons, Dannie (Tess), Daryle (Wanda) and Melvin (Kirsten) Yates; sisters, Ruth Jones, Lucivene (Sweet) Rounds, Lucille (Jackie) Robinson and Jeanette Jones; brothers, Eddie (Poochie), Leonard and Wallace (JohnnyMae) Jones; grandson, Dannie Oliver (Courtney), Melvin Yates, Jr., Maurice Eaves and Daejhuan (DJ) Bell; granddaughters, Tenesha Oliver, Diamond, Chatavia, Chavelle and Cora Yates and Samiaya Walker; great-grandchildren, Ciara, Dannie (Jr.), Camari Oliver and Da'Viere Thompson and Daquan Burnette; and great-great-grandson, Nehemiah Oliver.
She also leaves many more loved ones: The Oliver Family, The Wish Family, Charles Pitts, David Harris, Ms. Christine Shantz, the Mize Family, and many friends.
Services will be held Thursday, December 22, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307, Pastor Robert J. Evans, officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Friends may visit at the chapel from 11 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form at 695 Aberdeen (North Hill), Akron and condolences may be sent to 1469 Alphada Ave., Bldg. l, Apt. #1, Akron, OH 44310.
