In Harrison County, some locals refer to a spot between what was Stiglets Landing and Coalville as "The Ol' Kate Place." The name refers to the the ruins of the home of Margaret Catherine "Kate" Bellew. Kate raised her family there. Her children were Matilda, Julia, Lucy, and Robert Beauregard Bellew. Robert Cade "R.C." Saffold was the father of the children. Saffold owned the property that became Stiglets Landing. He owned most if not all of the property between the Landing and Coalville. Can anyone pinpoint the location of the Kate Place? Also, I hear that the first watercourse due east of the Landing is known locally as "Kate's Branch" or "Kate's Creek." Can anyone confirm this? Thanks much!
