According to the Allens of the Southern States by N. C. Miller and G. L. Miller, James Simmons married Elizabeth Allen, not Mary. The book does not mention Mortimer Simmons nor his brother, Ozias Simmons, but lists a James Simmons, Jr. as a brother to William Simmons. However, the listing of the siblings in the probate proceedings of Elizabeth Simmons Meadows clearly establish Mortimer and Ozias as siblings of Elizabeth Simmons Meadow, Lucretia Simmons, Susan Simmons Moxley, and William Simmons. The absence of James Simmons, Jr. in the probate proceedings suggests he was deceased by 1877.
