Hurricane Creek seems to be the area's name in the census of the 1800s. My family lived there. Toomsuba is the name of the area now. Also, Kewanee is very close by, as well. My family's name is Ramsey--my great grandparents are Jacob and Leanna Ramsey, an African-American family but I understand Leanna had a very fair-complexion. Jacob and Leanna bought and sold acres of land although they could not read or write. Who helped them? I see a James B Ramsey in the county. Was he a slaveholder? Could he be Jacob's father. Any information on the Ramseys in Mississippi is appreciated.
