WALNUT COVE, NC - Mrs. Annie Fay Stanford Chambers, 80, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
She was born in Monroe County to Leroy and Itie Sullivan Stanford. A native of Greenwood Springs, MS, she graduated from Smithfield High School where she played basketball with the women' s high school team. The majority of her life was spent as a homemaker in Birmingham, AL and she was an active member of Hillview Baptist Church for 42 years. She moved to North Carolina to be close to her daughter' s family and was a member of First Baptist Church, Walnut COVE.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Minnie Lee Carter and two brothers, William B. Stanford and Calvin Stanford.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, James N. Chambers, Sr. of the home; two children, Carol (Glen) Shamburg and James N. Chambers, Jr. all of Walnut Cove; two grand-children, Elizabeth (Liz) Shamburg of Walnut COVE and Tyler Shamburg of Belews Creek; two sisters, Sue Gray and Laverne Pope both of Amory, MS; two brothers, Raymond Stanford of Aberdeen, MS and Donald Stanford of Columbus,
OH. An 11:00 a. m. funeral service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Cohn and Rev. Johnson Gupton officiating. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. tonight, Jan. 30, at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Carol and Glen Shamburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer' s Association, 1315 Ashleybrook Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103, Hospice and Palliative Care of Stokes County, 3169 NC 8 Highway S., Suite 204, Walnut COVE, NC 27052, or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to thank their First Baptist Church family, the Alzheimer' s Association, Hospice of Stokes County, Dr. Copeland and staff, and Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home for their loving care during Mrs. Chambers illness.
