YOUNGSTOWN – Mrs. Nectar R. Packer departed this life Friday, June 25, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, Ohio.
Mrs. Packer was born on Oct. 22, 1938, to a large family of 11 children in Ripley, Mississippi, a daughter of Vance and Eula Alexander Williams.
She was a graduate of Ripley High School.
Mrs. Packer had been an assembly line worker at General Motors Lordstown, Ohio plant for 30 years, retiring in 2000.
She was a member of the Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, NAACP and UAW Local 1112, where she served on the Recreational Committee.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 49 years, John Packer Jr.; a daughter, Marlene Packer of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Rufus (Cynthia) Packer of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Benton (Charlene) Williams of Youngstown, Ohio; four sisters, Delores Gilmore of St. Louis, Sarah Monroe, Lurline (William) Taylor and Kavillion Felder, all of Youngstown; a grandson, Marques DuVall of Youngstown; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carl A. and Charlie Clay Williams; and three sisters, Emma Smith, Janella Betts and LaVoice Clark.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services will be held Friday July 2, 2010, at 10 a.m at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
