Need Help, Hiram and Sarah Tennyson

Looking for any deeds, wills, articles, or other verifiable information on Hiram and Sarah TENNISON who were in the 1850 Tish. Co., Ms census.

Hiram TENNISON was born ca. 1805 in NC according to the 1850 Tish. Co., MS census. Sarah was born in TN as was their first child James Henry TENNYSON. Their next two children were born in Alabama.

In 1845 Hiram is in the Tish. Co., Ms census for the first time as Hiram TENISON.

Sarah may have been a VAWTER, BAUDER, or neither. Cannot verify her last name. TENNISON/TENNYSON genealogist believe she was a VAWTER but she is claimed by BAUDER genealogist as well. The BAUDER genealogist list Hiram as TENNESEN or TENNEYSON.

There is a belief expressed in some e-mail I have received that Hiram and Isaac TENNISON were related. Some have said Hiram may have been a brother to James TENISON in the 1840 or 1845 census.

Family lore says Hiram's father was named James or Henry TENNYSON originally from VA, but most genealogist believe Hiram's father to have been Abraham TENNISSON of Rutherford Co., TN. However, I cannot find verifiable proof pointing any which way.

In family lore Hiram's father is said to have been buried in the "OLD" Forked Oaks Cemetary, not the "NEW" one. I find people who have heard of the OLD Forked Oaks Cemetary and say it had another name but no one has any information on it. Some believe the tombstones are under a house built on the Isaac TENNISON homestead or are in a wooded area and grown up and lost.

I cannot find any records in Miss., Ala., or Tn. of Hiram's and Sarah's marriage or birth of their children, except Tish. Co, MS census information.

All and any help GREATLY appreciated!! Please e-mail hiten@bellsouth.net

cemetery lookup at Iuka; Troop train accident, military connections; friend Pleasant May

I was wondering if someone could check the cemetery lists of Iuka, Miss. and see if E. D. Sims might be buried there. The E. D. stood for Eli Daniel or possibly Elijah Daniel. He died in 1864. Also if there is someone that could tell me about his military service I would appreciate it. I have looked and cannot find a company with all these officers in it: E. D. Sims died 10-18-1864 at the house of W. A. Burrows Esq. The primary cause was severe injuries received by an accident to a train on the Mobile and Ohio R. R. from a deficiency in the track, by which the train was damaged, several persons killed and many severely wounded. He wanted to be carried to his Co. which was Comp. H. Pickett's Reg. and Patterson's Brig. Roddy's Division in Alabama then encamped near Tuscumbia. As he was in route he got thirsty and got off the cars where the engineer left him, about two miles below Iuka. He walked on crutches to a home. He requested those who cared for him to write to his Comp. officers to allow Pleasant May, one of his companions in the area to come assist as his nurse. The request was not granted. I would appreciate it if anyone could shed light on any of this.

I am looking for information on Henry Long who married Margaret Counts. They were buried in Iuka, Miss. in 1858 and 1877 in Tishomingo Co. They had a daughter Sarah Alabama Long who married Thomas Castleberry and they had a daughter Agnes Mae Castleberry who was born in Iuka, Miss. in 1860. It looks like this family may have been in this area long enough to leave some trace. Also is there a cemetery in Iuka that is on line? Thanks Edwyna
This child was, I think, taken to Arkansas by his mother after the divorce.

I expect those who use my information to cite the source they received it from. In other words, give credit where credit is due.

Dale Johnson
Huntsville,Al.

Avie Gray married to Jesse Barnes 1843

I'm searching for any information regarding Avie Gray who married Jesse Barnes in February 1843. I've found their names in the censuses, spelled differently each time. I have a copy of a marriage agreement where he had to pay a bond of $200 when they were married. Based on this document (which is difficult to read because of the handwriting), it appears that it was between Robert Gray, who I'm assuming was her father, and Jesse Barnes, who she was marrying. I've been told by family members that she was full-blood Cherokee, but I have not been able to find concrete evidence of that (although I'm guessing it's probably true because of the pictures I have of her daughter, Georgia Barnes Davis, my great-great grandmother.) They lived in Tishomingo County. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Also looking for information on a Native American medicine man by the name of Squirrel Skin who was of the Choctaw tribe. Squirrel Skin taught V. G. Latham his medical skills which enabled him to be a successful doctor until his death many years later. Any info appreciated. Thanks in advance !

Would like to hear from anyone from these connected families. Gillie Grisham, dau of Marvin and Malinda Scruggs Grisham was born in Tishomingo Co in 1898 and died in Blytheville, Arkansas in 1986. She married John D. Blackard. I believe all their children are now deceased: Ercye, Linda Faye, Carl, and Mary Webber.

John D. Blackard had a brother William D. (Bill) Blackard. William D. was my great grandfather and married at least 3 times. Bill was born in 1893 in Tishomingo Co and lived north of Iuka in the Short community. He also went to Blytheville, Arkansas. These families went back and forth some between Ark and Tishomingo Co. Bill had by his 3rd wife, Idell Van Winkle, a son named Marshall Blackard. Idell died in 1981 and Marshall in 1969, both in Blytheville, Ark.
It is my hope that some Grisham cousins may know of this family and in particular if Marshall married and had children or if any of Gillie and John David's grandchildren are living.
My grandfather was Robert Blackard, son of William D. and Emma Malone. Wm D died in 1931 in a hospital in Memphis, TN. Any contact with persons with info on this family, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. There are a lot of unanswered questions. Thanks So Much, Rebecca Bruton Moss

They had a grandaughter living with them named Ida Anglin (parents- Thomas and Mary Anglin- both died of the measles according to my sister). WIlliam was 63 (born in Alabama around 1857). If anyone has any information about William, I would appreciate a response. I have searched Ancestry and cannot find verifiable records before 1900. Thank you.

Heagerty, Lankford, baskins family 1880 burnsville census

looking for the info on the below family listed in the 1880 Burnsville census...Thomas J Heagerty married Myra E Lankford 3/26/2892 and their children are jane b 2/24/2873 and Liddie b 3/8/1870. Liddie married James M Baskins on 8/19/1894 and died on 9/23/1913. James M Baskins was born on ??? and died 3/16/1903 either in this county or Hardin co, tn ... Possible brothers to Thomas J L Heagarty b 4/19/1849 and W E Heagerty b 8/13/1847. My husbands grandmother wrote all of this on a note(she has passed away years ago) and we just found it. We think that Liddie who married James baskins is his great grandparents who died very young. James' father Eli Baskins who married a Stoner in this same county took the children after the parents died and brought them to St Francis Co, Arkansas where they were raised by their aunt Mattie Baskin Sampley and her husband Ira Byrd Sampley.

William DREWRY and Julia Ann Pulliam DERRYBERRY

My ancestor William Drewry married Julia Derryberry in Tippah County in about 1852. He was in the Mississippi 10th Infantry and killed at the battle of Munfordville, KY in 1862. His son William (my great grandfather) was born on Jun 2, 1862, supposedly in Corinth. But that was only 2 days after the Confederate Army withdrawal and occupation by the Union Army. I've found no record of Julia and her son in Mississippi after that although she moved her family to Arkansas about 1870-72. She and her family are missing from the 1870 census of any state. The Derryberrys appear to have left the area after the war, but there are Drewrys/Drurys still listed in the census. I am trying to find out how she managed during that difficult time. Any information would be appreciated.
