Billy,
I think you are absolutely on to something! From your description of where these folks lived, they were absolutely neighbors of my Whittens. Your story about the Wiggins Shaw murder is very tragic but very interesting. I've had some folks ask me if I was kin to the folks involved in that "Shaw killin'", but I never really knew what they were talking about. This murder in Feb 1909 came only four months after the November 1, 1908 "Whitten killing" that I describe on my web page, and sounds like it took place within just a mile or two from the same spot. It must have been very upsetting to live in this community during this period of time. It's really sad...
As for Mary and Luther Crosby, I would LOVE (and would pay) to have a copy of their marriage license if one can be found. If you have a chance to visit the Ackerman courthouse, please try to find their license. I'll be happy to reimburse you for copying and postage expenses.
Also, do you know where the Crosby's might have been buried? And any idea what might have happened to Mary's sister Lummie Long? She was of marrying age on the census in 1900. Wonder where she might be on the 1910. I would appreciate any other clues you or anyone can share with me on this family.
Billy, I have been searching for these folks for over 20 years. It is so gratifying to think I might have found them, thanks to you! You have been a tremendous help to me. I'll share with you anything else I find.
Thanks!
Mary Katherine Johnson
