Laura, I am wondering if James Wilson, age 2 in 1870, is James Hershell Flanagan, born 6 Jan 1868 and listed in records I got from other researchers as the oldest child of Joel Flanagan and Sarah Ann Harrison. Since Sarah and her son James Wilson lived in the Flanagan household, it seems very likely that Sarah was a widow and married Joel Flanagan about 1870 and he took her child as his own. I can find no official marriage record for Joel and Sarah other than the one I got from these other family researchers.
