Surnames: Wilburn Willborn Davis Hysaw
Hello,
I'm looking for information about Raford M. Wilburn (or Willborn) and his children, from the 1870s through the 1890s, in Tuscaloosa, AL and Yalobusha, MS. I'm speculating that my great-grandmother Dora Wilburn could have been his daughter.
-----What I know about Raford-----
Raford Willborn was born in Georgia in 1847, to J.A.J. Willborn and Catherine Hysaw. (1850 US Fed Census, District 31, Forsyth, GA, page 293)
By 1860, J.A.J. had moved the family to Alabama. (1860 US Fed Census, Western Division, Tuscaloosa, AL, page 51)
By 1870, Raford had married Elizabeth, and they had a home in Tuscaloosa. (1870 US Fed Census, Precinct 8, Tuscaloosa, AL, page 7)
Children of Raford and Elizabeth were Albert (1875), Tilmon (1879), Vardaman (1881), and Ema (1886). They were born in Alabama, and moved with Raford to Mississippi. Raford married Victoria Woods, 31 Jan 1892, in Yalobusha Co., MS. Their child was Peter (1893, MS). (1900 US Fed Census, Beat 3, District 104, Yalobusha, MS, page 4, and Mississippi Marriages, 1776-1935)
I haven't been able to find Raford in the 1880 Census. He and his sons lived in Water Valley, Yalobusha during the first couple of decades of the 1900s. Tilmon is buried in Bethel Cemetery. His gravestone reads Tilmon Willborn.
-----What I know about Dora-----
My great-grandmother was Eudora Mae ("Dora") Willborn. Her surname is spelled that way on her marriage license, but in a family Bible it was spelled Wilburn. Dora was born 20 Jan 1877 in Alabama. In that family Bible, her father's name is written Race Wilburn, and her mother's name is missing.
Dora married William Lafayette Davis, 20 Jan 1897, in Yalobusha Co., MS. Their first four children were born in Yalobusha, then they moved to Jefferson Co., Texas and had five more kids. On the 1910 Census (District 89, Beaumont, Jefferson, TX, page 8), her father's nativity is Georgia, and her mother's is USA.
Dora died 14 Feb 1918 in Texas. W.L. returned to Yalobusha with the children. He died 8 Apr 1919 in Water Valley, and was buried in Bethel Cemetery.
So... it's possible Dora could have been born to Raford and Elizabeth between Albert and Tilmon, but thus far I can't prove yes or no. Anybody have any leads?
Many thanks,
Lisa Davis
