One of my great grandmothers was Minnie Lee Jordan, wife of William Thomas Holland. They were married in 1888 in Yalobusha County,Mississippi. For years i believed that her father,s name was J.W. Jordan and that her mother,s maiden name was Mary( originally thought to be Williams but according to Minnie,s obituary her mother,s maiden was Stepenson(i think this is right but i dont have the record handy).According to a Bible record that my mother had written from memory,Minnie had a sister named Debbie,a sister named Tannie(i know this is correct)a brother named Thad,a brother named Clark and i believe there was also a brother named James.According to Minnie,s 1900 census record she was born in Alabama and both her parents in Georgia.
I have discovered an 1880 census record for Yalobusha County,Ms.( a transscribed one not the orginal image) listing a George A Jordan age 38 born in Georgia(his father born in South Carolina and mother in Georgia) his wife Mary, age 30, born in Georgia with both parents also born in Georgia.George is listed as a farmer. The following children are listed:
James W,age 11 born in Alabama;Minnie L,age 9,born in Alabama( depending on when the census was taken in this place this could match up with my g grandmother,s birth year of 1870 if the census was taken before her next birth day);Thadeous, age 7,born in Alabama;Deborah, age 5,born in Alabama;Effie C,age 2,born in Ms(I seem to remember an Effie listed in that Bible record also) and Lenora, age 7 months, born in Ms.I dont think there was a Lenora in the Bible record. However she could have died as an infant and my mother might not have known of her.
All this seems to match up too much to be a coincidence especially since Minnie L Jordan was living in Yalobusha County sometime prior to her marriage to William T. Holland. It is possible that Clark and Tannie had not been born yet .
Does anyone have anything further on this George A Jordan family ?They lived in district 2 in Yalobusha County in 188o.
