I am looking for the descendants of John Crowell
of Ireland, his wife Judith Stinson-Crowell,
and his mistress Emily.
John would have been born about 1820 or 1822.
He came to American during the potato famine
in Ireland. He lived in Alabama before settling
in West Point, Mississippi.
I don't know how many brothers or sisters John
had, or how many children he and his wife Judith
Stinson-Crowell had. There is a Mosely (Thad)
connection as well. Some white Crowells married
some Moseleys of West Point.
John and is mistress Emily, who was a seamstress
by trade, had 2 girls, who were said to have
passed for white, one with red hair, and 1 son
name James Crowell born about 1845 or 1850.
The girls were born free, but James became a
"Freedman", according to Chancery Court records,
in 1865, due to the U.S. Constitution.
In about 1869, James his wife Vinie Hawkins-Crowell,
purchased property from a Grant Wilsford his
wife. James Vinie (Vina) had 3 girls, 1 name
Pinky Crowell, whose several married last names
would have been Mask, McKeethen, Parrish, Spurlock.
Pinky had about 6 children.
Some of the 9 boys names were: R.C., Tan, Harrison,
James, Willie, Halbert Albert (twins). The other
girls and boys names are not known at this time.
Most of the children moved from West Point, MS and
moved to states like, Indiana, Illinois,Michigan,
California, Oregon, Alabama, and other states.
I anyone out there is familiar with these individuals,
names, details, please contact me at the above e-mail
address or call me in Michigan at 248/357-1005. We
are attempting to put together a reunion, including
the offspring of John and Judith Stinson-Crowell (the
Caucasian) side of the Crowells.
John is where it all began. We are looking for
sons, daughters, grandchildren, great, great grandchildren,
cousins, in-laws, whomever. Those who either
bear the name Crowell, who are in some way blood
related, or just have info to share.
Please check out the CROWELL SURNAME MESSAGE BOARD
FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION WITH NAMES AND
DATES. THANK YOU.
