Shirley Mae James, 65, Archie, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at her home.
She was born Nov. 4, 1939, in Archie, the daughter of Eugene Paul and Eula Mae (Williams) Easterla. She graduated from Archie High School in 1957.

Nov. 1, 1959, she married Paul Grinter and to this union was born, Becky J., Susan Renee and Jeffrey Lynn. Jan. 1, 1987, she married Travis James.

Mrs. James had been employed at many restaurants in the Archie community as a waitress and cook. She, along with her first husband, ran a farm and dairy business in the Austin area.
She was a house parent for the Oakland group homes in Cass County. She was a cook at the Prairie Home School in Prairie Home. She was a cashier at the Harrisonville Wal-Mart when she became ill with cancer.
Mrs. James assisted her husband, the Rev. Travis James, for the past 15 years as they served six United Methodist Churches in Missouri at Prairie Home, Splice Creek, Jamestown, Chilhowee, Norris and the past six years at Archie.
She was active in Sunday school and vacation Bible school since early in her childhood. She was an active member of the Archie United Methodist Church. She was active in community organizations.
Surviving are her husband, Travis, of the home; three children, Becky Graham and her husband, Ron, Garden City, Susan Yahnig and her husband, Jeff, Harrisonville, and Jeff Grinter and his wife, Cara, Buffalo; seven grandchildren, Justin Grinter, Jeffrey Grinter, Courtney Yahnig, Megan Yahnig, Jace Grinter, Joshua Yahnig and Hunter Yahnig; other relatives and many, friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Harold Dean Easterla, Bill Gephardt, Bob Grinter and Gene Hackler.
Pallbearers were Mike Williams, Steve Williams, John Cobb, Carl Osborn, Scott Johnson and Tom Mays.
Services were Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at the United Methodist Church, Archie, with her husband, Rev. Travis James, officiating. Music was provided by Larry Cantrell, Jerri Foote, organist, Lori Pommier and Mike Bowman.
Burial was in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Archie.
Contributions may be made to the church.
